Hi.
After (At last) deciding on 1 of 2 Dells to order, i Phones the Sales number and Talked to the sales dept.
I used the advice from this forum and said dell had been recommended by a friend.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=153497
Got directed to India and had ABSOLUTLY NO JOY at all.
They wouldn't budge on either Laptop at all.
1) Dell Vostro 1700.
They said that being a Business Notebook, they could do nothing for me ? All discounts are built in.All they offered was a Card reader....WOW.
2) XPS M1530
Now with this one i was chancing my luck a little because it was the Base model which is already down £100 on the dell site PLUS i have the latest code which reduces it a further 10%.
Total would be £494 or just under $999.
I tried to get them to upgrade the GPU but no no no was their answer.
They said i could only use the code online and there was no way they could match it's deal. They also said that getting a XPS for less than £500 , $1000 is very rare ?
Is this true ? and is this a good deal after all ?

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Indian customer service is the worst in the world.
Before some one flames,I have seen it with some friends form India. -
As for the OP's issue. I was lucky to get a CSR from India to accept my 20% coupon and allow me to upgrade the CPU. Of course other issues caused the order to be cancelled 3 times... It was frustrating.
Your deal seems quite good to begin with, you migh have to call a few more time before you can get something better. Might help also if you weren't going for the basic config as they seem to be able to give deal on upgrades.
Good luck! -
I went for the base XPS due to budget.
Never thought it would be near my reach until the £100 off deal + 10% off.
Thought i'd try my luck.
The Vostro was my original 1st choice due to price and what i got for my money.
But they say no discounts are available on this model because they are all "BUILT IN" , whatever that means ?
Any advice on how to word my next call to the sub-continent, about Vostro (or XPS) , as i'd love even a little deal or victory before i order.
Thanks. -
XPS Support is based in the US and Canada......main reason why I bought one over an Inspiron.

Just recently bought an 1530 myself...
Got 10% off with a couppon and managed to get a further £30 off when I upgraded my screen but it was a struggle and depends on which Dell CS you get to speak to (I tried a few... lol).
Another saving can be had by using Quidco.com which is a cash back site and gives you a 5% discount on the purchase cost excl VAT & Del though you have to wait approx 3 months for them to credit you. -
You do have better luck with getting discounts on a more expensive machine. They probably won't be able to do much for you for a base model, though it's certainly worth trying.
People have reported getting better results from a UK-based sales reps. To max your chances of getting one, you should call during their regular business hours.
Good luck. -
Sales are now shut for the UK (10.30pm).
When i call back tomorrow, do i stand any hope of a discount on a VOSTRO or is the Salesman correct, in that they don't do discounts on Vostro's ?
Probably not gonna get the XPS any less due to it's current price reduction and my Discount coupon but i'll try anyway. -
Vostro 1700 already has a card reader. It's next to the firewire port, on the RHS of the machine.
-
DO THEY KNOW THEIR OWN SPEC'S ????
Me thinks they try to pull a fast one mmmmmmmmmm !
Another little trinket to remember for tomorrow -
Or he probably meant that he would throw in a card reader accessory (i.e. one manufactured by a 3rd party like Sandisk, as an S&P)
Tried to deal with India Sales ... No deal !...Help please.
