Have you tried your 1520's headphone jack? Mine seems to be transmitting a lot of hard drive/internal electronic noises when I'm not playing music. I'm curious if its just mine or are other people picking up on this. (It's not the drivers, I've updated them, this is a hardware thing.)
-
-
is it noticable when music or anything is playing?
-
did you get the Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition?
-
It's dependent upon the headphones for me. When I use the Creative headphones dell gave me, it's a nightmare - constant beeping and static. But when I used my Steelsound headset I could barely notice it.
Perhaps it's something to do with magnetic interference/shielding?
I didn't get the software edition, btw. -
I have the Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition, so I guess it's not an issue of a broken card or one version of sound option over the other.
It seems to be more of a consistent issue of poor design rather than one fault issue. It will be interesting to see if we get more responses in the poll and what that might imply.
Yeah, I definitely notice it more in the included Creative earbuds; I think its because those earbuds are so tiny and focused on treble and high pitched sounds that it is more annoying in them. I tried with two other very different headphones and I still hear it but less so. I imagine the only way to eliminate it would be wireless bluetooth headphones like on the accessories page.
I mainly hear it when I'm not playing any music or sounds. -
Ok well I don't have 1520, I've got the 1420, but this drove me to try my headphone ports out also since I'm planning to use this when I go on trips and what not.
I have a pair of Shure E2Cs and I use the size small foam plugs if you're familiar with them. I have the standard HD audio, not the Creative Soundblaster HD software audio.
I do not hear anything from the computer, like noise from the hard drive or DVD drive - I am listening to iTunes right now as my computer is installing WoW from CDs.
I have an occasional skip but that is no different than my desktop since I installed Vista. They definitely have work to do with the audio stack in Vista still.
With the volume muted there is a very slight but noticeable hiss when I go from headphones unplugged to headphones plugged in. But nothing at all bothersome. -
no noise or distortion here, I have the normal base audio as well
-
dicecca112, can you post your specs? I want to see whats different before reporting this to Dell.
-
hmm kinda worried about this right now...I intended on listening to a lot of music through those headphones =/
-
Just talked to a Dell Representative and described the problem - he told me its probably a motherboard issue and wanted to send a tech over to replace the motherboard... I'm going to get a second opinion first though - he didn't seem very confident and couldn't even tell me why he thought the motherboard was the problem.
However, this may explain why some people don't have the issue, perhaps Dell caught the problem with the mobos and fixed those which haven't yet left assembly? -
It's far more likely that the cheapo earbuds aren't shielded well... and are picking stray RF that the computer is generating.
-
My nice headset still has some pretty bad static though... just not completely terrible like the Creative Earbuds.
-
Those little wires to the earbuds are basically antennae...
-
The Creative Ear Buds suck so much. When I had those plugged in to just see how good they were (because I mean they looked really good), I got a lot of static noise, which is no good. But it totally depends on the quality of your headphones. I have PC 151's from Sennheiser, and the only time I will hear the static, is if I have it turned up all the way on my headset, which is easily avoidable.
-
Mine's crystal clear with Senhheiser mx75 earbuds. I tried to stress the hd loading multiple programs at once, 3d app switching etc, but the track I was listening to was perfect.
My system volume is around 20 which is very loud in these earbuds. Try riding your itunes/media player volume on max, but keep the system volume as low as possible to eliminate hissing. -
does anyone else think its kind of awkward to be hooking up your speakers to your laptop in the front? it's kind of in the way. where as ion the inspiron 9300, the headphone jack is on the side...
-
Hey Natarajv,
Although I was a Vostro buyer instead of the Inspiron brand, the headphone jack on the front was the exact reason I strayed away from the new 14" laptop by dells. Otherwise I thought they were great until I realized I like having my external speakers plugged into my laptop. I guess they thought the 1420 was for people who carried their laptops around often and thus used headphones (in which case it wouldn't matter). -
The 1520's headphone jack is on the left hand side of the laptop.

Hello guys!
I had to register since this is the first time I have seen somebody with the same issue i am having with my 1520!!!
This is my setup:
7300 intel
8600 gt GPU
2 GB ram
the Creative software edition audio (for some reason i thought it was an upgraded sound card...but i didn't do my research so i blew 25 dollars on that cheap crap)
Anyway... I have the same noise issue.. it is REALLY INCREASING when I plug in my AC power cord... It also increases with use of my Keyboard, mouse pad, and any hard drive usage...
I am getting a new one from dell tomorrow... it's a replacement...but i don't know if it's going to fix my issue?
I am using Sony mdr-v700 headphones and have tried other headphones... no luck in elimating the noise...
Could the CREATIVE SOFTWARE BE THE ISSUE?!!?
P.S. Muting the line-in or muting all the sound all together still DOES NOT SOLVE THE NOISE ISSUE! Therefore, I don't think it has anything to do with the headphones you use..cheap or expensive.....
So is this just a bad product? why hasnt everybody experienced this issue?
dell says its just a bad laptop and sent me a new one...but I have doubts it will be fixed?
HELP!!! -
i am really anxious to hear people's experiences! all 1520 owners come forward! we need your input!!
-
I just received my 1520 today and I am also receiving a lot of bad static and noise coming from my pc.
I can hear it from the computer even when I do not have the head phones on, it is worse with the head phones.
I'll call dell tomorrow. -
how about you chat to them using the live chat support?
also, link them to this forum...show them people having this issue!
Oh and my system config is just like yours, except...
are you using the CREATIVE SOFTWARE EDITION? -
I did not get the creative software edition. Actually, I am on the phone with dell right now.
I will post if I have any new information -
so is the creative software the culprit?
or is this a hardware problem??? -
has anyone tried a usb headset? does the static still carry over from that?
-
I think it's hardware...
Oh I wanted to try a USB headset...but i don't have one... I wonder if an external USB sound card would help too??
help! -
My E1505 does this. Even when USING SYSTEM SPEAKERS. I mean, gosh...
-
Yeah there's pretty bad static....ugh...even with high end sennheisers
-
I'm also getting a little static through my headphones. I only notice it when I'm not playing anything though.
-
i got the standard sound thing. but yeah there is some nasty buzzing and beeping static noise when idle and nothing else going on.
-
This seems to be a widespread problem?
-
Yes it is widespread I suppose.
I asked Dell if they tested my laptop before sending my new one and they said it will have no problem...
let's just hope the person who tested it had good ears and common sense...
I'll let you know what happens with the new one. -
-
Unfortunately, just got mine and it does have some interference on the headphone jack
-
Aww
well at least the speakers are pretty nice...let's hope static doesn't carry over to the USB ports... -
-
A first: The tie-dyed screen of death!
-
hi i just got my laptop, i'll test it in a bit.
I AM GOING TO BE PISSED OFF IF IT'S THERE. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED DELL IF IT WAS TESTED FOR IT AND IT WAS OKAY.
Does anybody know if this noise carries over to USB DEVICES such as external sound cards or USB headphones?
please respond. -
there's ****ing noise! They just had to make a crappy faulty line of Laptop and on top of that lied to me when they shipped my SECOND laptop assuring me it was tested and alright!
we all need to complain to DELL,...no joke... this is outrageous.. -
can body please please try testing out USB audio products and let us know if the noise is there too!!
PLEASE!!
i AM SO CLOSE to buying USB audio just for this stupid crap laptop's audio faults. -
good luck to those getting replacements. I am still waitying on my replacement 1520 and it has been 8 days since the order for the replacement was placed.
-
well.. they want me to send the 2nd one back so it can be checked on..not returned..checked on..
then they said they will send it back in 8 days if its OKAY and fixed, otherwise they will call and update me on the status of the issue...
I'M DOING THIS FOR YOU GUYS... so they can check this issue on my laptop and get some results. -
bump..
-
read this
might help you all. it's not a 1520 thing. it's a HP, Apple, Compaq, Dell, etc thing cuz of C2d -
we are talking about headphone jack not system noise?
-
I am talking about the headphone jack and hearing the system noise through it. read the forum. it will explain it. The Core 2 Duo affects the headphone jack and sounds on many different PCs from different companies, because of the throttling.
-
screw Dell... im sick of their problems. Screw INTEL too... my AMD desktop pc has never given me so many frickin probs as an Intel based PC has..
-
i've heard of cpu whine like those found on the hp 6xxx series, but hearing it through headphones really suck. i wore headphone with music playing so i don't have to listen to the cpu whine...which was very high pitched and annoying as anything on my dv6000t.
im glad i ordered a compal ifli90/sager no2090 over 1520. those with the 1520...good luck!
you guys might wana try programs like rmclock and see if that'll help? -
My problem is worse. I can hear the noise without the earbuds, even louder than the fans in medium speed. The earbuds that came with the computer are fairly as I tested them with my ipod. But they just amplify the noise to an unbearable level.
-
Why doesn't someone on here just go to that link, download RMclock, do what it says and report back. Damn, stop *****ing.
