yeah...my jack is really noisy even with my high end sensenheisers.

-
Hey stormchase4, did you use Rmclock and apply those settings like they had mentioned?
-
not yet...but i will.
-
try it pleez
-
Duke, download rmclock and try it yourself. I would do it but I don't have Windows. I will give you my PERSONAL assurance if you do it right, you won't break anything. Not that my assurance means anything...

greyed out Good game..

Its nightmare with my AKG K26P. Oddly enough, its not much of problem with my 12$ AT though...RMclock fix did remove "whining', although its really annoying that you have to manually start it every time you boot vista. And even without whining, my otherwise fine K26P still get terrible background static noises. Dell rep told me that they cannot fix it because its not hardware problem(no whining in BIOS), and Vista SP1 may fix it. Apparetnyl it is a common problem, and now I am debating with myself if I want to return this otherwise fine laptop.
-
Uh-oh. I have a Vostro 15" on order...essentially the same model. Anyone have first hand experience with the Vostro? Does it have this problem?
Anyone who has had the problem under Vista, tried it under either XP or Linux? Did it still have the same problem?
Finally to the person who asked about USB sound cards. Although I ave on first hand experience, the USB sound card should work perfectly. It transmits the audio digitally to the USB card. The card (or dongle) then converts it to analog.
Still, if this is a problem I'll have to find another laptop. -
USB sounds card works fine. SPIDF should work, too - for noises from headphones, anyway. You still need to fix whining from laptop itself, though.
-
there is no whining from the CPU for me at all, outside of the Laptop.
i ONLY HAVE noises when i plug into my headphone jack.
So... USB DEVICES, i.e. External Soundcard WILL FIX IT?
How about EXRESSS SOUND CARD, i.e. X-FI SB EXTREME AUDIO? -
Hey duke, I was having the same problem having noises from headphone jack when it was plugged in. So dell advised me to ship it so they can have a look and maybe change motherboard and stuff. I will keep you updated with whats going on.
-
they wanted me to do that, even after my return for a new laptop..which had the same issue still..
i didn't want to wait for them to look at it...then call me...then ship it back... so i decided to return my laptops all together..
and yes, please keep us updated! your info will be important to this issue. -
When I was on the phone they said I had two choices return laptop or repair laptop. I thought if the technicians who repair know whats going then they will fix it where as the guyies who build them, he will just do the samething again like he is supposed to do. So i sent it for a repair. They should be recieving it today. Hopefully they can fix it, if not I have no clue what I am going to do.
-
i wish people would inform us if using USB headsets or an external soundcard would elimate the noise...
then again... maybe I should just try it myseld, but I have neither of those and don't wanna blow my money on something that shouldn't be there to begin with.
plus my laptops are being picked up today so dell can have fun selling them as refurbs... or maybe just cleaning em up and posting them as new again lol. i only used em for like 15 minutes each anyway. -
Does anyone knows where the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook can be found and what's the price?
I first choose the Creative Software Edition thinking that this will be a better sound card, but now knowing that the 1520 contains a regular sound card which has problems with headphone jack I'm thinking very serios about buying an external sound card. -
its available on dell's website...and its a new option when you build a dell..
i wish it was there earlier..i wuda got it in the first place. stupid me. stupid dell. -
i just purchased a headset with inline volume control.
HERE'S THE ISSUE!!! READ!!
EVEN on my DESKTOP i get similar noise... but this is due to the IN-LINE volume. UNFORTUNATELY, there is no option to mute it in VISTA.
This is where the physical inline volume control would be useful.
I will post my findings in a couple minutes! -
-
from what I saw on Dell website it has the same price if you order it separately
The only question remains if it has the same problems in Vista like the integrated sound card
So, before I order it, it will be very useful to find this out from somebody who has already tested this Express Card on Vista -
Ok..using rmclock and checking run hlt command when idle..does eliminate the high pitch noise coming from the laptop..it also eliminates hearing this sound in the headphone jack...although there is still a little "noise" coming from the jack, but certainly better than before.
it hasn't really increased my cpu temp...currently running at 49 C -
Interesting, you would think that Intel would look into this and tell consumers about this problem so everyone wont panic and they would try fix the problem. Ahh... the way Corporations get their money no matter what
-
-
Does this problem affect blue tooth headphones?
-
lol mine have just been shipped back to dell
-
Huh? I don't understand
-
in windows XP, i had a similar noise issue. i fixed it by going to sound props and muting the "Line-In"
since i can't mute "Line-In" in Vista, I has to use a headset with the volume nob on the headphone itself.
it worked... but kinda sucked cuz the problem is there if you turn the volume on the headphones all the wayy up. -
Gah! I was looking at the Compal IFL90 and heard that it's having shipping issues..the Dell was a fallback plan and now I hear this.
Time to check out the Asus G1S-A1...ugggh. -
Wow, I hadn't tried headphones until I saw this thread--mine is definitely noisy. I think this will be the last straw; I'm probably going to return it.
-
I've already returned mine...headphones port was a huge deal breaker.
-
OK, Japanese forum had information that can help with noises somewhat. Those with Bluetooth should go to device manager, select Bluetooth and uncheck the option that let PC turn BT off to save powet. This gets rid of the most horrible buzzing. Its still bad on headphone jack, but helps.
-
So far there's the DDR2 graphics card memory letdown, graininess with higher resolution screens and now the headphone jack noise. Any other deal breakers? I always hate being a new adopter/beta tester but figured Dell had a winner with their new models. Perhaps I was wrong.
Is it 3 strikes and you're out? -
-
by chance i ordered a pair of icemat siberia headphones that should be coming today. they come with a usb soundcard. will let you guys know.
-
delivery got rescheduled to the 23rd :-(
-
My dell 1420 has the same noise when using the headphone jack.. I contact the warranty people and they are just going to send me a new one. Looking at the poll.. my question is there are systems that do not have this problem right?
It would suck to wait for the new system and only to find it has the same problem or other problems. -
it will have the same problem most likely. i returned mine too...new one came with the same issue. just cancel it, you will be glad you did. SERIOUSLY. cancel.
-
People who report "noise": what type of sound did you get? There are 3 types:
High Definition Audio 2.0
Integrated Sound Blaster® AudigyHD Software Edition
Creative Labs Express Sound Card
Wouldn't the last choice be better, because it's an actual sound card? Even with that, is there still static? -
The last choice is better, and there would be no static. You can buy one if you have already ordered, and it's even cheaper:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A1164635 -
I have not ordered yet.
You are saying that the "Creative Labs Express Sound Card" is exactly the same thing in the link you provided?
If so, everyone who reports "static" has either:
High Definition Audio 2.0
Integrated Sound Blaster® AudigyHD Software Edition
Am I correct ? -
Yes, you are correct.Nobody in this forum has tested yet the Creative X FI Express card, but this one is the best choice, and if with the USB sound cards there are no static sounds then neither with Express card should be.
-
I love how they added that new sound card to the 1520 customization after all the complaints have been made. I'm really pissed.
-
Well, I find it quite surprising that no-one purchases the Sound Card... it's better than any software, anyway.
farelli09: Oh, really? They added the Sound Card after all the 'complaints'? That's pretty screwy. -
Has anyone tried to get dell to send them this new sound card for free??? I mean they obviously added it for a reason, and it's kinda rediculous that they have such a widespread mistake slip through there hands. I think I might give dell a ring tomm about a free/discounted sound card. I'm not returning this machine, its already "mine/broken-in", so they should help ME fix THERE mistake. *crosses fingers* lol
-
Thanks for the heads' up guys! When i order my Dell Inspiron 1520 i'll customize it so that it has a dedicated sound card to avoid this annoying sound.. (hopefully avoid)
-
I ordered my Dell Inspiron 1520 last week and got it yesterday afternoon (surpisingly fast). Anyways, I ordered the Creative Labs Express Sound Card to go with it, which will hopefull solve the problem. It seems that it should though as it is completely replacing the crappy sigmatel audio card that dell slaps in there. The biggest deal with the Creative card is that it ships seperately from you computer (hopefully most people will know how to install it).....hopefully mine will come today.
-
-
same problem with mine - just received my laptop - and it does make noise when I use headphones.
I believe (something is telling me) it's the wi-fi card - had similar problem before.
So please let me know if you (who have this problem) are using wireless connection. -
I have not received my 70$ Creative Labs Express Sound Card yet, I should get it tomorrow. On the tracking and shipping invoice it lists the card as the Creative X-Fi extreme Notebook edition or something....which from the picture looks like you just slap into the blank slot on the left side of the 1520, where a higher broadband wireless adapter would normally go. It looks as though I will be receiving the card tomorrow afternoon or so so I should be able to get it up and running there shortly....hopefully this will mean bye bye to the buzzing.
-
i talked to dell today and they have agreed to send me a the card after telling them that changing the motherboard was not an option. The dell agent connected with dellconnect first and tried to update the audio drivers.
Tried your 1520's headphone jack?
