Does anyone else have a problem registering for the free upgrade to windows 7. Whenever I try to validate my service tag it says I should wait 10 days because my order might not be in the system. I order my E6400 early mid July. And it also says my system isn't eligible when it is.
I've chatted with a Dell person online and he was no help. He just gave me a number to call. I called that number and I had to talk to a lady with an Indian accent that didn't understand what I was saying. And I got transfer a couple times until some guy gave me a number to call, but I couldn't because they were closed or something. Now I call that number and they give me another number to call. Everyone keeps saying "I am not trained to handle this issue."
Dell is getting really annoying and they are not helping at all. I wonder if any of them are even trained to do anything other than transferring calls and annoying you

Where did you buy the machine from? Which country are you in? These are both factors in whether your machine is good for the free upgrade.

It took me 2-3 weeks to be able to register for the upgrade, my opinion is they don't allow you to register until your 21 day return window ends. Thats just speculation on my part.

talk to them on live chat or send them an email, it should've shown up on their system by now, so they might need to look into it.

Although saying that, you say it's been 40 days since you recieved your laptop? What date did you order the laptop, because that is what matters, not when it was delivered.

Early/Mid July might not qualify. I think it was the 29th or after. You might want to check the website.

I ordered it july 12th and the free upgrade started like june 26th
I did do a live chat, the person said he didn't have knowledge of it -.- and I also shot them an email, they just gave me a phone number to call
And my system does qualify. I made sure of it because I don't like vista. I did not expect to have trouble getting my free upgrade

I had a lot of trouble too, and after the customer service person failed to understand what I was saying and provided an irrelevant response for like the 5th time, I got angry and yelled at him. He escalated me to a succession of American CSR who eventually set everything right. All in all, the whole process of fixing it took over a month, and they apologized saying the system had a lot of problems in the beginning, but they've just about ironed them out now.

whoops, misread your month. I ordered a 4300 from the outlet and it took a while to get into the system. Since I had some other problems I let my CSR know about it during one of their follow up calls/e-mails. The next time I checked the website I had no trouble doing it. I'm not sure if it was my CSR or they finally got around to getting my serial number set up. Either way, it took about 2-3 weeks before I could register.
