    1. How do you use dell media direct? How do you start it? Does it detect all media files on your pc?

    2. I am an engineering student ordering a m1330, 4gb ram, 2.5 penryn. I want to be able to run older games too however like emulators and battlefield 1942. Would 64 bit be a good idea or a bad one?

    3. How do you order vista 64 bit? Vista is already installed when you get your lappy - is it 32 or 64?

    4. Why is a product red m1330 w/ ultimate only 1 dollar more than an exact configured blue m1330 w/ home premium?

    5. Does the product red m1330 come with a fingerprint reader? (there is not option for one)

1, Media direct is useless IMO, windows does everything it can do and everything it can't do all pretty well.

2, 64bit won't be good idea for old games, and in general, if you are using professional programs, vista is bad.

    3,4,5, No idea.

    3) IIRC, most manufacturers including dell, will only give you 64-bit if you get Ultimate while all others will be 32.

    4) You should ask dell; they set the prices.

    5) Um...i believe there is a biometric fingerprint reader included with the m1330, and to be honest im not sure you can get one without it...verification of this would be nice.

Must be some kind of offer, as it's £100 more in the UK (hence the main reason I didn't go Product Red, despite my love for the colour).

64-bit Vista performs no different to 32-bit Vista, contrary to popular belief, though I know a fair few emulators that do perform better in XP.

Dell is now letting customers have 64 bit windows but you have to phone in and ask (you can only get it configured as 32 bit but then after you get the laptop you call). I forget the thread it is in but you might have to quote a policy manual if the sr does not cooperate. Search if you want to find it (vista 64 bit?). As for the other questions, I am sorry, don't know. Again, I believe the fingerprint reader is now standard and if you wanted it without one you would have to call in and get it configured with a sales agent (which might save you money anyway if you haggle a bit, lol); maybe however you can't even get it without it even if you call in.

Dell MD has 2 components: a Windows Media Center and a stand-alone Operating System (XP Embedded). Both are accessed by pressing the MediaDirect button located near the system's power button.

The 2 MD components go hand-in-hand, in that the Windows portion also includes a service that keeps track of your documents, pictures, and movies, and enables access to them from the XP Embedded portion.

Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate's Media Center essentially duplicates the functionality of the MediaDirect Media Center, but choices are nice, even if you do have both, and, if you have XP or a different edition of Vista, you now have an included Media Center.

In your situation, I would go 64-bit (I am using 64-bit, myself). 32-bit applications run fine, and you can run 16-bit DOS games in DOSBox, a free download from SourceForge.net.

Vista x86 is installed. You can request from Dell Tech support that they send you a 64-bit version of the same Vista Edition that you ordered, at no charge.

Dell changes promos all the time and you can pay more for the same configured system if you don't find the right promo.

For example, if they offer a $2000 list priced system, they'll likely offer a few hundred dollars off, which means your still looking at $1500 and up. If you were to start with a $1000 system, they'd offer, say $200 off, so if you then added all the add-ons to get to the higher-priced system, you'd then be paying more, since you're still only getting $200 off.

I don't know, but the M1333O certainly has that option - check a different config of the Product RED, or order it over the phone with a Dell rep and have them add it for you.

They won't install it because they don't directly support it. You'll be responsible for chasing down the drivers, but there is another thread with a list of them.

I think it was on Dell IdeaStorm for a suggestion to offer x64 as an option. Obviously they haven't implemented it yet.

    NEW QUESTION

Let's say I just get my m1330 in the mail and want it running at its full potential. Does Dell provide a Vista disc with my pc?

If I want to reinstall vista, can I keep the mediadirect partition? How?

What if I want to install 64 bit? does ultimate come with both?

How do you use windows media center? Can I press a button like media direct?

Dell sends you the media direct CD and the OS install CD. You can get Dell to send you a copy of your OS in 64 bit, there is a thread floating around about it. Windows Media Center is on your operating system.
