    Hello.
Quick query on screen quality on a Vostro 1700.

    Is it worth upgrading from
    WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display
    to
    WXGA+ (1440 x 900) Display with TrueLife™ ????????

Is one Matte and one Glossy ?

Which do you prefer please ?

    Thanks.

Go in a store and look at both. This is a personal question....just like which is better red or blue....

Unfortunatly no Dell store near me.
My local Electrical retailer has some Inspirons but not sure what they are.

I'd just like to have peoples personel view/choice.
Maybe one is strongly prefered over the other !

Matte screens are better if your under bright overhead lights (EX: classroom, office) I see kids in class all the time adjusting their screens to get rid of glare.

Me, I went to Best Buy and immediately knew that my laptop would have a matte screen-the glossy ones were annoying at first sight! :p

The glossy ones do make pictures and movies look better, so if that's more your thing you may want to consider it.

A glossy screen is the same manufacturer to manufacturer. So go check out any computer with a glossy screen.

Maybe red is more popular than blue too, but it doesnt mean its better for you.

Besides, there are about 25 threads about this already.

As said, it depends on your personal needs.

    Media? Not outdoors much?

This is really not a poll sort of problem.

Truelife screens FTW. I ordered my Vostro 1700 with Truelife and it looks stunning.

    Ok
    Obviously it IS personal choice.
Having checked out a few other threads, i think i'll go with the Truelife.
Seems unless it is to be used outside or directly in front of a window, the preference is for truelife because of the picture quality.
My daughter will mainly use it indoors anyway, so that's the answer.
    Thanks.

I don't necessarily agree that all glossys are created equal as I have been out comparing them for a few weeks - but maybe the gloss is the same and the brightness is what makes them different?? Sony's gloss is not as glossy as the others, for example. Anywho, I just returned a 1720 that did not have TureLife. It was horrible - dull and way too dim for me. Had I really done a little more homework, I would have ordred a Vostro 1700 with TrueLife instead.
