hello cyberfolk!
I saw the post and replies re: recovery for Inspiron 1545, but when I tried this myself, I wasn't able to click "enter" after I got to the "Advanced Boot Options" screen. the "Repair Your Computer" option is there (and already highlighted) but for some reason, I cannot press "Enter" to continue with the install. Maybe it's a mousepad problem? Also my "Down" arrow key seems to work but my "Up" arrow does not![]()
Can somebody PLEASE help me with this?

does the keyboard fuction normally in the systme BIOS? If so, it's not a keyboard hardware failure. If the beyboard acts the same in the BIOS, it's time for a new keyboard
-
you can also try using an external keyboard, but I agree time for a replacment keyboard.

I'm not sure what you mean by " if it functions normally in the System BIOS" because I've never used it before (other than trying to turn it on and install the replacement software to reset it). I don't know if the keyboard is functioning normally or not.
(still) a damsel in diSTRESS...

How would I use an external keyboard. I'm willing to give that a try, in order to determine if that's the only problem I'm having or not. But I'd need to figure out how to attach it first... Can u help with this ?

Hi RoseM,
As posted by yeuemmaimai and dave-p, if the Enter key is not responding in the BIOS, then you may consider replacing the keyboard. If you would like to try ‘Image Restore’ using an external keyboard, please connect a wired keyboard to one of the USB ports on the Laptop and try the below mentioned steps. For your information, the Image restore will delete all data from the laptop. Therefore, please do the needful to back up your data.
• As the computer starts, press <F8> on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.
• Press the <Down Arrow> on the keyboard to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press <Enter>.
• Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next.
• Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
• From the set of options that you have please select “Dell data safe local and emergency backup”
• Select the second option on the next page that says “select other system backup and more options”
• Select the option “restore my computer” on the next page.
• Next step Click on the “factory image” which will be mentioned in the box and proceed to next.
• If you have saved all your important data you can select the second option “restore without preserving new or changed files” proceed to next.
• Select “Yes Continue” within approximately 30 minutes the system prompts for a restart.
• Please restart and complete the set up and check for issue resolution.
I hope you find this useful.
Thanks & Regards
