Is there a way to the turn LCD or back light off with a short cut on the Inspiron 6400? I haven't seen an option but it is a handy way to save power on battery when running a tool that you don't need to watch.

A quick question, will this only work if the short cut is on the desktop? I can't get it to function any other way with the the short cut key.

    very cool little program

1.) and yea donka came up with a nice question, would it work without putting it on the desktop but still have a short-cut key?

2.) Is it possible to mod this so it can work on the login screen, i sometimes leave my laptop in my dorm- all i do is press (flag+L) to lock it. But i want the monitor to shut off as well (i dont want to close the lid since i have a device on top of the monitor)

I like a clean desktop and didn't want a short cut to this app on there so I just added the short cut to the quick launch toolbar instead and added an icon for it. Works fine, although you still can't use a short cut for it, you need to click the icon but at least now, it is small and discreet. Thanks for pointing me to this app.

    1) You can put the file anywhere on your computer and you can also put the shortcut anywhere. You don't even need a shortcut to the file to run it.

    2) You can get Windows to turn off your monitor after a certain amount of time. Right click on your desktop and click on Properties.
Go under the Screen Saver tab. There click on the Power button.
Here you have the power options. There you can see the Turn off monitor option with a pull down menu for Plugged in and Running on batteries.

    Hope this helps.

Does anyone have a good looking icon for this?

I realise this and it works fine for me. What I was asking though if it is possible to have a short cut key combination to run this without the short cut being on the desktop. I can't get that to work!
