When the laptop is off, I press the media direct button to go to Dell Media Direct. When it is in this, there is any way to shut the laptop down properly?

In Dell Media Direct, there is 'exit' option, but it is unresponsive when I clicked it. I ended up to shut it down by pressing and holding the power button for a while. I believe it is not a proper way because that is what everyone calls "soft shutdown"

My laptop is M1730 on window vista and Del Media Direct 3.5. Any answer is appreciated.
