This may a dumb question, but I just use these laptops, I don't know much about the insides... so forgive me if this is DUMB...

I have not been happy with my 6400 and the fan noise/heat... I read on an old thread that some were saying going with the integrated card (Intel950) this is not an issue and it runs quiet, but that if you get the dedicated card it will run hotter requiring more fan use...

I have the ATI 1400 in mine but only use internet, email, office stuff, etc... no gaming or anything like that.

So, is there a way to turn the dedicated card to integrated or tone down the performance ...?

    Thanks...

You either have dedicated or integrated, so no you cannot turn if off.

However, you can use PowerPlay (right click on the desktop->click on ATI Catalyst Control Center->navigate to PowerPlay) and turn all the settings down to 'Optimal Battery Life' and reboot. Then you should be running at the lowest possible speed and as cool as possible.

Thanks for the tip - I checked it and its set to optimal battery life when running on batteries... oh well. I was hoping this would help...

Any links to show how much more battery life a 1400 would eat then a 950?
