Hey everyone, first post, this site looks great. I did a search for this and didn't find much help... The problem i'm having is with my Dell Inspiron E1505. I simply want the monitor to shut off when i close the lid of my notebook.

In my power settings there's only 3 options in the menu where i choose what to do when i close the lid of my computer: Do nothing, standby, hibernate. I don't want to standby or hibernate, and when i pick do nothing, i get exactly that... nothing, and the monitor remains on when the lid is closed.

Is there any software, drivers, something i can do to make this simple task possible? Posting here is my last resort, i've searched google and this forum alike for what i need but haven't found exactly what i'm looking for.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

My guess is your not using Vista because in Vista there is the option of 'shut down' when closing the lid.

Go to 'Choose What Closing the Lid Does'.

this was an option back in windows 2000/me but is no longer an option in XP. However, if you upgrade to XP from 2000/me and you had it set to do this in 2000/me then this field will be empty in XP and it will still perform as it did in 2000/me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 which is almost like the same thing. I chose the option "Do Nothing" and when I close my lid, the screen goes out. Turn off your light and see if light goes through the holes. I don't know what's different about yours but when I close mines, the screen goes off. Also, when I reopen it, it's black and then it loads. Takes a few seconds but I chose this option because I was tired of the standby.

I think vista does it automatically, if you choose "do nothing"

Yeah, normally when it it set to 'do nothing' the screen will shut off/go black when the lid is shut. the screen usually goes black when the lid is about 1/3 of an inch from being closed. If the lid shuts and the screen is still fully lit, i'm not sure why that is happening. that could be a software or a hardware problem.

Hey, i'm running Windows XP media center edition... i don't know if that's the problem, but it's what the laptop came with i believe.

When i keep the option when i close the lid at "Do Nothing", the monitor remains on when i close the lid.
