I think my graphics card or motherboard died........

I was playing a game on my Vostro 1400 when the screen froze, so I turned the computer off, and when I try to turn it back on, nothing happens. I know theres power going to the screen since the back light is on, but the screen is just blank, and I can't get into any of the diagnostic tools at startup either.

Its not the hard drive since it wouldn't stop me from getting into the diagnostic tools. I know because the hard drive failed on my laptop when I first bought it, and I was able to run diagnostics.

I checked my warranty, and it doesn't seem to cover replacements. So I guess its a new laptop........bleh.

Almost 1 year....I checked the warranty to see if they cover it and it looks like I only have phone support.

I know I had hard ware support when I first bought it, since they replaced the hard drive, but that period ended long time ago.

    PS....

My computer was "over-heating" alot the last few weeks......I figured I just had a virus and was stopping the fan. I guess it was a hard ware problem

Was it a refurb? Should have one year of hardware warranty.

I bought it new. I just logged on to dell to check my warranty and I didn't see hardware replacement after the initial period.

ya looks like my warranty for hardware covers first 90 days.

I'm thinking of getting something "cheap" and small to replace it....like the MSI wind. I was thinking of the EEE but that thing is getting expensive.....at $550, its barely around $50 cheaper then my Vostro when I bought it last year.

All DeLL computers come with a standard 1 year warranty parts and labor. You may have to ship it back to them but as long as you are within the first year of purchase you should be fine. If you are within your first year I suggest get on the phone ASAP and call them.

Yeah. Call and check. Can't hurt, and you might get a new laptop out of it.
