Is there a way to disable the blue led indicator lights from being on, because they can become quite annoying at times. I am a proud owner of a Vostro 1400,

    Thanks

I find the blue LED light on my 65w AC adapter annoying. Its so bright it can light up a dark room.

You could physically disconnect the LED wires if they are not soldered on.

thanks napalm, but i'm looking for a way to do it withing the software or bios.
Maybe there is a program that I dont know of. I'm not looking to open the laptop itself.

just checked out the A03 bios. can't find anything that looks helpful there... it would be cool if notebook hardware control could do it, but i don't know if it can.

yeah it would be cool if at least it could make them dimmer at least. That would rock.

I doubt there's an easy way to turn them off via software. It's a case of function following form, I guess. I think Dell would have done better to use something other than superbright LEDs (who needs to see their laptop's status lights from two miles away?), or maybe they could have placed them above the keyboard so they could at least serve as a keyboard lamp.

LOL I was wondering the same thing! I don't know how many nights I've been ready to throw my precious lappy out the window because of the ridiculously bright blue blinking light keeping me up.

I tend to just place my mousemat along the edge of the laptop. They are incredibly bright, though thats not a bad thing. we would complain if they was too dim.. :p

The charging light by itself is so freaking bright, damn Dell for that.

I usually end up putting cloth over it.

But come to think about it, the wires should be easy to acces if the keyboard is removed...

I have a D630, so it might be different, but:

There are no wires. The LEDs are surface mount and they use that special light carrying plastic to bring the light where they want it.

In Linux, the LED for the wireless (intel 4965 in my case) and the Bluetooth (Dell 360) are /always/ off, even when the device is active. So those can be disabled (or rather not enabled in the Linux case) by software. But you might need to hack the drivers to do it, so that might not be very trivial. The power/charging LED I think is just controlled by hardware however.

Just a wild idea: using a felt pen to cover them with dark ink (using a cardboard mask not to go over the chassis). Perhaps a non permanent ink might do as well and it could be cleaned with a wet tissue.
The led should still be visible through the ink layer, but they would be considerably dimmed.

    Now, who wanna try first?
    :)

Might as well put invisible tape.. but that is not the solution I'm looking for. :)

Wouldn't invisible tape let the light through? Don't you mean black tape?

The blue lights at the end of the airport runway were a favorite parking place of my youth. Why would you want to turn them off?

I have insanely bright blue LEDs on my home theater equipment.

I got used to cutting out a sliver of white printer paper the size of the LED and taping that over the light. It still glows, but much more managably.

It's not the prettiest, but it is functional, and I have gotten used to it.

Personally I love the blue LED's! Combine the blue LED's with the blue outlines on the touch buttons of the m1330.....and I truly was in awe when I got my laptop! I still love it!

They are superbright so that you can see them in daylight.

If you want them dimmer and don't want to solder you might be able to disassemble slightly and lightly sand(300-600 grit) the led-end of the clear plastic parts(lexan?) this should diffuse & dim the light transmission enough to help. I would recommend sanding with 800 or 600 grit and seeing how it looks, and then going to lower grits if you want it to be dimmer

If you are going to go that far why not just draw on them with sharpie or something, it will block out the vast majority of light getting through I would think and just look black when they are off.

    Hi all,

I have a Vostro 1500 that I recently bought from the Dell Outlet, and I have a question for my fellow owners. Do you see two pinpoints of blue light next to the "Page Up" button? It seems to be leakage from the indicators....I just wonder if they are all like this.

    Thanks so much!

Hey Aims, you might want to start a new thread, since this one has run its course, and isn't about "LED Light Leakage from Vostro 1500".

I had a gateway 7426gx, horrible quality laptop but at least it gave you the option of turning of the LED's by press Fn + F1. These bright led's drive me crazy too. Does any one have a picture of what they did to cover these up for inspiration?

You can turn them off in set-up, it's in the post set-up group.

They'll stay off until you use them, then they'll come on and go off again.

HAHA just yesterday i had the same filling how to turn F**** blue light from my charger it looks more like a lighthouse!!! with my room completely dark with my charger plugged in, i can walk through with no problem avoiding my chair, the corners see its a lighthouse!!! so then yesterday i was so annoyed with it that i standed up went to the charger and made it face the floor. thanks god someone else fells the same!! i wish this led was underneath the keyboard to light the keys up just like the MacBook Air looks sexy though, (of course with a damn option to turn it off) there are 2 lights which i would like blow away... the lighthouse from my charger and the universal power sing that keeps facing me when i fell sleep since i keep my laptop just over the desk by my bad really annoying when its blinking when you put it to hibernate.

anyway i dont think cutting the connectors are a good thing cuz you might have problem with your warranty, software for my charger???? i dont think so... well back tape it!!just as i did 1h ago!!! hahaha
