Well I configured my E1705 how I like it. I have about $100 more to spend so.....

I cant decide if I want the TV Tuner or upgrade to the Ultrasharp. Does anyone have the Tuner and how well does it work?
Im going to game with this lappy and there isnt a place for me to view the Dell Laptop screens around here. I went to Compusa and all the 1440x900 screens looked ok to me so I wondered about that.

If your mainly going to game with it, then get the ultrasharp. If your getting like the 7900GS, which im assuming if you want to really game, you'll want the extra resolution so you can make the games look really pretty. And if you decide you eventually want a TV tuner, you can buy an external one that goes in the expansion slot.

Isn't the tuner that comes with the E1705 external anyway?

I assumed it was internal, but I could be wrong.

The TV Tuner is External and atm it sucks... good for tv, not game consoles. HOWEVER I havent got around to testing with dscaler yet which may solve lag.

Get Ultrasharp as THAT you cant get later on whereas TV Tuners you can buy externally ANYTIME. LCD screens however.. once you got it.. you wont be replacing. Plus.. it looks nicer in higher res modes.

it is external, however it would be better to wait for a express card solution anyways for mobility purposes :)

    edit:

    also, definitely get the ultrasharp

I would go for the monitor upgrade because that is not something easily upgraded aftermarket. The TV Tuner is simply an add-on.

The monitor will be the hardest part to upgrade.. but IMO 1680x1050 (thats the lower res lcd for the 1705 aye?) is more then enough for most things, and especialy if you game, 1900x may be to high a resolution to push in 3d games (for my superclocked 7900gs in my game computer, 1680x1050 gives passable performance in games like oblivion and fear) and you would need to use a blurrier lower resolution.

I would say go for the screen, as a TV tuner can be bought at anytime since it is external. On the other hand, the WUXGA screen may be too small for you. It depends on what you're used to. My old Dell has a 1400x1050 screen, and it's a 14", so needless to say, it's quite a high res. My M90 has the 1440x900, and I actually have grown to prefer it. Going back to my C640 puts a little strain on the eyes now. It just depends on what you want.
