I was on the computer today and decided to go to Dell's website just to check things out like new deals and Outlet and whatnot. When I typed in the address, I accidentally typed www.del.com instead of dell.com, and it took me to a Dell homepage. But it's not the homepage they use now, it's the old website homepage with the old layout (they updated about a month or so ago). Just found this interesting and kinda funny and thought I would post. All the links and everything still work.

That's probably Dell's way to protect themselves and their customers against typosquatting.

Exactly. The same thing will happen if you accidentally add an extra "o" or forget an "o" when typing in "google".

Well, I know it's to help protect their website. What I think is funny though is that the other two URLs mentioned here lead to their old website layout. For instance, if you type www.gogle.com, it will redirect you to www.google.com. But if you type www.del.com or www.delll.com, it doesn't take you to www.dell.com. It in fact takes you to an entirely different homepage (albeit an outdated one). But it's funny, when they first update the website, I didn't like the homepage navigation as well. If only I had known about this funny quirk.

Yea, Dell just registered all those other names to prevent people being directed to some other websites, possibly spam websites or spyware infested.
