First, under Device Manager - Monitors, I only see four "Default Monitor." Just as a curiousity, I want to know who manufactured the display, and usually the Hardware ID is under "Plug and Play Monitor," which doesn't appear, and it's not listed under any of the Defaults. Is there another way to check?
Secondly, I bought this for my wife largely because of my immense satisfaction with my E1705, but there is one thing about the E1705 that has bothered me since day one: the power buttons. On the E1705 this power and Media Direct button both flex in more so than they depress, if that makes sense, like they are on hinges rather than springs. It's a total vanity issue, I know, but they just feel sort of cheesy. The new E1505 has a really nice power button, and I was wondering if that's just a difference between the two models or if Dell has changed them all sometime in the last few months.
Thanks

The e1505 power button is just a piece of circle of plastic that is attached to the cover by a thin strip...pushing down in the button actually just moves the plastic "circle" down and depresses the rubber covered power button beneath. If you are curious get a flathead screw driver and pop off the plastic by the bottom of the display-there are notches on either side by the vents on the sides near the back of the laptop.
As far as the display goes--just search this forum, plenty of people have already asked this question and it has been answered. -
I've seen that thin strip under the hinge cover on my older E1705. My point is that the brand new E1505 has much nicer power/MD buttons, and I was wondering if the E1705 and E1505 have different buttons, or if Dell changed them and now the new E1705 has the nicer buttons, as well.

I believe that it is the same mechanism. I never had an e1705; but if it is as you described than they are alike.
It is possible that they are not quite lined up, causing more pressure than normal to be exerted for them to trigger.
just a thought. -
it could just be manufacturing differences. i have a creative zen sleek and so does a friend and our power buttons are at 2 different heights (just slightly) and have completely different feels.

speaking of e1505 buttons, what would cause them to stop glowing? They used to light up blue and now they don't light up at all.
It's not a big deal I just was wondering what the deal is.

OP:
device manager / monitors is for external monitors, don't worry about it -
To further complicate the issue, here are some pictures of the two power buttons. Their faces are slightly different. The newer E1505 is the picture that is more red, and the older E1705 is the more blue. They are, of course, the same color, but one was in a room with incandescent lighting and the other had daylight spectrum bulbs. The difference is subtle, but the E1505 button has a small inner ridge.
Like I said, the E1505 button presses straight down, but the E1705 button tilts slightly as a result of the small plastic strip that attaches it to the hinge cover. Has any one seen one of the ridged buttons on a newer E1705 or visa versa?
