Hi, I've been wanting to buy a XPS1330 for a while now, but all the horror stories on this forum keep stopping me.

I'm waiting for Dell to iron out all their teething problems and improve their quality control, but here's my question; do the UK XPS1330s that are built in Ireland, suffer the same quality control problems (e.g. poor panel fit, scratches, bulging keyboard, cpu whine etc) as those machines built across the pond?

    Thanks,
    James

I cant speak for all but my M1330 build quality was perfect. No sign of any scratches, wobble etc. What I did have on mine was an extremely loud whine when the laptop is off and charging, so have requested a replacement. But other than that one problem, the laptop came in perfect condition.

    Hope that helps.

Well, I'll let you know tomorrow :D
Btw, all EU-bound gear is assembled in Limerick

Oh... what, exactly was doing the whining, the M1330, the battery, or the charger and which of these item(s) are you having replaced? Did they approve your request for replacements?

Don't actually know if quality problems are caused of the high mass of sales they are getting... but if don't like the quality of the laptop you receive you can always return it no problem...

I got mine 3 weeks ago and aside from a light uneven base which was completely fixed with some carefully bending and the common whine its perfect, but i still asked for a replacement cause i don't like the whine... i could keep it but i don't have anything to lose :D

The whining was coming from the RAM slot. They are sending me a new laptop which should be arriving tomorrow.

Hmm, would have thought the mobo caps (this so-called CPU whinning) but not with the laptop off, that can't be... how bizzare!

I think I'm more scared than happy that mine's arriving tomorrow...
