Last week on the 15th June I ordered an XPS 2:

    2.13 processor
512 MB RAM (will put more in myself, already ordered the 2GB which is on backorder!)
    100 GB 7200 rpm drive
    2915 wireless
    350 Bluetooth
    XP Pro
    3yr nbd support
    XPS 2 Nylon Backpack

The order status hasn't shifted since 17th June, stuck at status 2 - awaiting parts. Predicted delivery date is 4th July.

Has anyone got an idea of what might be out of stock? When this may come in? Am I at all likely to get the laptop by Wednesday 29th?

Very annoying, I'm flying to Berlin on 30th June, flying back on 5th July, I would like to take my new laptop as I'll have some time on my own out there.

Also - if they do try and deliver when I'm not home I guess they'll leave a card and I can go an collect in the evenings? Which delivery company is usually used for London?

    Thanks for any info.,

    UKB

Dell relies on over 20 different suppliers for each laptop made, so although they do use multiple suppliers for each part, there's always a risk that your 100GB hard drive came into short supply and if you had chosen say an 80GB hard drive it would already be on its way and assembled...there's no way to tell which part is causing delays though. There's still a chance you'll get it by the 29th, once the notebook is assembled in China it takes 3 days or so to reach the part of the world it's going to. I don't know who Dell uses for shipping in the UK, usually UPS I think. If you're not home you'll be able to pick it up from there nearest shipping center.

Yup you are correct, they just phoned me to say they can't get the 100GB 7200RPM drive, so I've switched to the 80GB 7200rpm drive,

They saved me £120 (UK Pounds) and put me on priority,

    fingers crossed,

Oh my god, how did you get it so quick?

It's 7th July, I'm still in order status 2 and the expected delivery is 16th July!!

    Original order: 15th June
Updated HDD: 28th June (due to Dell not being able to get the 100GB 7200RPM)

I think they are missing parts for you. Keep checking. Mine was sent out on the 2nd business day after I ordered it and got it on the 3rd day. I ordered a 9300 which is more likely to be made faster since XPS seems less mainstream and more of a luxury item so things could be done differently.

Well I ordered my 9300 on the 3rd or 4th of July and it did the kitting, building, and testing all in one day, but it hasn't been boxed yet. I think it is because I am getting the Dell 720 color printer and the order hasn't been sent to the warehouse yet. They expect to ship it on the 15 and I should get it between the 20th and 22nd.

Oh my god :) It's moved to status 5 - dispatched, as of 19:53 Thursday 7th July.

I'm working from home all day tomorrow (Friday 8th July) what are the chances do you think of a delivery tomorrow? It seems Walsh Western is the carrier,

    Any thoughts?

I have a feeling that you won't get it, just because of my past experiences of hoping for day early deliveries. I doubt mine will get here next week even though the laptop seems to be ready to ship.

Well I got these two boxes on Monday night.

Very carefully unpacked, read the instructions and powered on.....

Oh my, what a wonderful machine. Boots quick, looks great, the screen is to die for, I'm just so so happy!

It easts everything I've chucked at it, BF2, HL2 (this looks stunning and very smooth at AA4 AF2) etc..

Wireless works a treat, it's so so quiet, the speakers are very good for a lappie.

I ordered 2GB of Kingston RAM separately (£250 UK from SMC Direct), it was very very easy to fit.

My only slight issue is the mini keyboard, shame it doesn't have a full size, but IMHO this is a small price to pay. Still a shame though.

I would recommend this machine to anyone.

    One happy user,

    UKB

Yeah I got mine monday and I am so pleased with it. There is nothing I can critisize it for yet. The keyboard doesn't really bother me. I have big hands, but I had no problem using it. The touchpad also works well and I just love the high resolution. I can have so many things open at the same time. I also like the media buttons. I can see a glare if I am not concentrating on the what I'm reading so I can't say it bothers me. Right now I have to say that this is a great laptop.
