    Hey all,

So I was typing on my Inspiron 1520 and went to the bathroom. I came back and the pane on the right side of my notebook that covers the portion near the LCD has popped off a little and is not flush with the right side of the notebook. Anyone else having these issues? Can I have Dell come out and fix it if I got the in home warranty??? Check out the picture to see what I mean.

What do you guys think? Poor build quality or something???

Please reply as soon as you can. I'd like this issue resolved before I go out of town.

    Thanks!

i dont see a picture but i think i know what you are talking about. cant you just press them back together again? if not, then yes, dell will probably issue you a replacement screen via technician to your home.

If you mean the part that has the power button, media direct button? The piece just above the keyboard that also covers the hinges? that simply pops off (you can even see a little indent designed for if you have to pry it off. simply push it back down, it should snap back into place.

    Hi guys...added the picture.

FourForty, yes, you are talking about the correct piece. However, when I push it down, it springs back up again, it doesn't click in place or anything.

    What should I do???

Remove the piece, and then try putting it back on.

Isn't there anything else possible, I don't want to break it by taking the piece off, because I'll admit I don't know what I'm doing....

I know I sound redundant, but I'm sorry, I'm just stressed out about this...

You won't break it. Pop out the owner's manual, there are specific directions in it on how to remove the panel. I just did it the other day to install memory, and it takes no more then 10 seconds total to remove, and replace the panel. Use something flat and not sharp to place in the indention on the right side where it's popped up. That hole is there for a reason. Lift from there, and the panel snaps off easily.

one thing you may want to try is putting the screen as far back as possible, then pushing straight down on the far-right hinge. that panel also covers the hinge, and the hinge has it's own little clip, and it wont clip back into place by just pushing on the panel part, so try pushing down on the very top of the hinge.

If it's possible, post some pictures.

There should be rules as to when you can and can't use "URGENT" in the thread title.

My take on this -- its urgent. i'm not a tech but do rely on my
pc and can't afford surprises in my line of work--which, by the way,
    is not computers.

Take some deep breaths, it's not a big deal, nor is it going to prevent your laptop from working. If you can't pop it back on, schedule a support visit for a better time. You can use the laptop this way.

    Urgent?

Most likely, the piece has gotten out of its place, just take it off and place it back on correctly again, it takes sometime for me the first time I tried to take it off/putting it back on.

Don't worry just do it carefully and you can half slide/half pull the piece off, I see you have the machine came with 2 gb of RAM installed so you didn't went over the trouble of installing the RAM yourself, otherwise, you would of know that taking the piece off is no big deal as long as it is done correctly. Refer to the manuals if you needed more detail instruction.
