Just the other day, my friend did something really stupid. As i was walking in the door to my school, he threw my laptop to me, expecting me to catch it. It was 6 in the morning, and i was not awake at all, and it hit the floor. Now it was in the case, but i think it was still damaged. I turned it on later that day, and it went to the "resuming windows" screen, then it froze. I turned it off, then turned it on again. It wouldnt boot. The power light and the caps lock light came on, and the num lock and scroll lock lights were flashing in unison. It was like this for a few days. Sometimes it would boot, but when it did it was very unstable and i would get random restarts and BSODs. Now, a week later, it completley refuses to boot at all. I just get the flashing lights thing. The shop really didnt know the problem, and dell service sucks. Can anyone identify whats wrong? DO NOT tell me to get a new computer because i cant afford it. I do have a "new" 8 year old comp that im using now, but i have $200 worth of pc games that will be completely useless until i either get it fixed or get a new comp. Thanks in advance!

Maybe nothing actually broke when your machine hit the floor. It's possible that something inside may simply have come loose or unseated - at least you can hope for the best. I'd start by checking RAM.

This is John, a customer advocate at Dell headquarters.

Let me start by first saying "ouch" :(

In our training documentation, that specific light sequence appears to indicate an LCD error. I would try to reseat the LCD cable. If that doesn't fix the problem, it could be caused on either side of the cable, I.E. the video chipset or the inverter board (inside the LCD).

Let me know if the reseating works.

Teach your friend a lesson in life, and make him pay/fix it.

Or ask for him his laptop, and throw at him when he's barely awake.

Get complete care warranty especially if you are in college.

also try removing the battery and power cable from the laptop, hold the power button for a couple of seconds, then put the battery back in and the power cord too.
