Title says it all. I've Googled for 40 minutes with no luck. laptopvideo2go seems to be down with computer problems and I can't find an alternative.

What I'm looking for are drivers for my Inspiron 1520's 8600 GT. (laptopvideo2go 169.09 download 36.91MB)

Does anyone have it/host it for me? Pretty please?

You shouldn't need the entire driver installation files.

Just go to nvidia.com and download the beta version of the 169.12 driver (latest)

I have the modded INF file needed to make it work. You just need to replace the original INF file with the one from laptopvideo2go.

Send me a PM with your e-mail address!

Orion, ah, I have XP (not vista) so latest is 169.09.

So, is this "modding inf" method the EXACT same thing as the Laptopvideo2go drivers?

I was under the impression that they tuned the default nvidia forceware install with NVLite.

Orion23 (or anyone else), have access to the laptopvideo2go modified drivers, please let me know! :(

Their default drivers are compressed, but not tuned in any way to the best of my knowledge. They merely use the modded INF file.

Do you have the 169.09 XP 32-bit driver downloaded from nvidia.com already?

I've always installed the driver by replacing the modded INF file. Just drop it into the extracted files from the NVIDIA driver.

The INF file I sent you was created for the 169.09 drivers, but it might work for the 169.09 as well.

    Give it a shot!

Yep. Oddly, my drivers don't have nv_disp.inf. They have nf4_disp.inf

    Sorry man.

I thought the modded file was made to work on all OS's.

I just looked through mine and it is in fact for Vista. I didn't even know that @ the time I grabbed it.

They should have nv4_disp.inf, no? Other wise you don't have the official nvidia forceware release.

If you do, you can use the INF I've attached below.

    Hi guys,

This really sucks. I'm having a lot of problems installing the INF hacked version of forceware. So far, I've ONLY been able to install the NVIDIA DELL Manufactuer's drives found here: http://tinyurl.com/3b9t9y

I've tried to install the INF-hacked versions, but here is what happens:

    1) If I try to run setup, everything looks like installs fine (but the install progress goes FAST). When I check the drivers, I found that nothing has changed. The driver hasn't been installed.

    2) When I try to manually install the drivers, it gives me the following error:
"The driver selected for this device does not support Windows XP"

I am 100% I used the INF file from Windows XP and the driver has been downloaded from the Windows XP portion of NVIDIA's web site.

    Help! :(
The Dell NVIDIA drivers run fine for now, but I would really reaaally like to install the updated drivers.

    Easy answer here,

the error you got, only pops up when you use vista-only INFs on an XP machine.
Better download the right INF first.

When you have it, extract the driver files into a folder and replace the original INF with the modded one.

Afterwards uninstall the dell drivers, run drivercleaner once, and after you reboot the OS should be asking for new drivers (e.g. new hw detected), then just manually navigate the OS to the folder where you extracted the files and voila, the drivers will install (you'll get a pop-up that the drivers aren't signed).

    done.

    EDIT: here's the inf

OMG you're the man. That worked.

What was weird is that the previously linkd nv4_disp also says XP in it, but it's a different size!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!

    EDIT: one more question.

Is there any way to perm. disable "C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe"
I disabled in services, removed entry with autoruns, but I have a feeling it's coming back.

Is there any disadvantage to disabling this (e.g. will it b0rk anything?)

Well, it always comes back when you install new drivers, so unfortunately no. You'll just have to disable it in services.msc again. Don't worry there is no disadvantage when you disable this.

    Hi Cyanize,

Thanks again for all your help with everything.

    3 questions:

    1) Wouldn't disabling the NVIDIA service disable the control panel?

    2) What's the best "control panel" software for the 8600 GT w/ these forceware drivers. I'm aware of RivaTuner, but I'm looking for something like "Coolbits" (the software that put overclocking directly into the control panel + change 3D settings and such there).

    3) I'm guessing the 8600 GT has some kind of "speedstep-type" technology, where if the GPU isn't being used (e.g. desktop, web browsing, etc), then it downclocks the core/mem. Where can I find this setting to tweak? Is there a piece of software that does this?

Sorry for all the noobish questions, but I'm new to NVIDIA card. I've only owned ATI :(

    stisev,

1: NO, you can still access the control panel from right clicking on the screen and choosing display properties.

2: Afaik, nobody really uses coolbits anymore. As for overclocking, normally it's disabled in the drivers. (so the only way is to flash your cards bios) There are exceptions of course like 196.04, where you can use either rivatuner or nTune (integrated into control panel) from nvidia, other people even use ATitools to overclock.

3: Yes, it's called powermizer, and if you use modded drivers for mobile gfx cards, you can find the powermizer settings in the control panel.

    Hi Guys

I downloaded the 169.12 drivers for my brother and the inf file for windows Vista but I have a problem... I don't have a nv4_disp.inf file in the setup folder, only a nv_disp.inf file. Does the inf file only work with official non beta drivers? I tried renaming the inf file but that didn't work, I also tried the xp file and renaming it, but that also didn't work (quite obvious, but you never know).
I always get the same error btw: "nothing changed in the drivers, would you like to reboot?" SOmething like that.

Btw: The laptop is a Dell Vostro 1500 with Vista Business and an nVidia 8600M GT.

    What to do? :(

I'm not sure what the problem is, the 169.12 LV2G INF is called nv_disp.inf. Make sure you're using the same version INF as the driver you have.

The only .inf files in this thread that are linked to for download are nv4_disp.inf, not nv_disp.inf.

Where the heck can someone get the proper nv_disp.inf file for the 169 drivers?

    Thanks!

There is a seperate INF for each driver. The ones linked in this thread are for 169.09 I believe. If you search, there's a thread somewhere about laptopvideo2go's problems that links to all the INF's.

I also need help with the new drivers. I just got my Inspiron 1720 today and I want to update the drivers. When I download the 169.12 drivers from, Nvidia and replace the INF file from the one linked in this thread, then try to install, Vista tells me that it can't find the file specified.

The one's linked in this thread are NOT for 169.12. You must use the correct INF version, the one which matches your driver version and OS.

I found a big Rar file of INF's, extracted the one for 169.12 Vista 32bit, extracted the Nvidia driver and replaced the INF then tried installing and I still get the message that Vista can't find the file specified. What did I do wrong?

If you want to use the modified inf with the drivers from the nVidia site, you have to download the international version of the driver. Not sure why, but for some reason the inf file is looking for other files that aren't included in the English-only version.
