I bought an Inspiron 1420 last month here in US.

To my utter surprise the laptop doesn't play DVDs bought in US and spits out some message related to region.

My DVD drive is TSSTCorp R/W+TS-L632D.

Is there a way to make it region-free so that it can play DVDs from all over the world.

I have to travel a lot globally and would love if the player can be made region-free.

    Appreciate your help !!!

What error does it give? Is it on the autoplay?

Have you tried playing the DVD using VLC or something like that?

You might have to manually set the region anyway. In XP, you'd
    go to My Computer
right-click your DVD drive, choose properties
    go to Hardware
find the DVD drive on that list
    press properties
press DVD region and choose your region

    Thanks taso. It helped.

My DVD region was showing as Not Selected.
I set it to appropriate region and the DVD ran fine.

However it would be great if the player can be made region free so that DVDs in other countries can also be played.
