My dell xps 1530 ships in a few days and I would like to setup a dual boot on it, with 8.04 and vista.... also i don't want to remove dell media direct...
i know that there are guides on the subject available even on this forum... but i have been searching like crazy for the last 2-3 hours and yet i couldn't find even one![]()
can someone please share a link where i can read more about it?

thanks a lot for these but they are rather general, i already have a dual boot on my desktop, but i read about dell media direct screwing up systems if new oses are installed..... any information about that would be helpful.....

The trick to installing Ubuntu on a dell with the media direct is to shrink the vista drive through the control panel --> system and mainenance --> adminstrative tools --> create and format hard disk partitions. Simply shrink your vista drive to give the system enough space for ubuntu and install ubuntu on it with the live cd. Just make sure that you do all of your defragmenting and partition manipuating with vista other than initially building the ubuntu partition on the raw hard drive space. Wubi is a good option as well, but that seems to cause problems with the pagefile system on Vista if used for an extended period of time.
