    What the hell?

Have my notebook since January had no problem since but now my dvd-drive is not even opening up! It's like if there's no juice at all to it, it's not even detected in the device manager, not showing up in My Computer. Anyone know what the hell is that ? Is it a known issue or ?

Is it detected in the BIOS ? If not, then it could be either due to a faulty drive or a loose connection. First try refixing. Take a look at the service manual for instructions. If that doesn't help then you'll have to call DELL.

If its a Windows error, well….. you can try uninstalling the secondary IDE channel in the device manager (under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers). That will force Windows to detect devices on the secondary channel. It may help.

DELL's bios is crap and doesn't even show what devices are attached man.

Edit: if it's the fixed bay device it shows NONE, i'll try refixing it.

I have this same problem. I sent my computer back because the motherboard busted on it after having it only two years.

Now they sent it back w/ a broken DVD/CD drive! I am pissed AND To top it off it freezes. I call them about this and they can't help my problem at all!

So can you tell me in plain modern english how you fixed your DVD/CD door to open. Mine is not opening only unless i stick a pin in it and pry it open.

    thanks.

I just followed the steps on the link given by PhoenixFx!
Just unscrew the LOCK screw under your laptop, then push toward the exterior on the metal tap where the screw was and bang the dvd-drive will come out, reclip it in and it should work. Worked for me...

Glad to hear you got it working again. Maybe DELL didn't fix it properly the first time ;)
