:( there's nothing I can do about this is there?

It's an awful hiss/humming electrical or fan noise. It's extremely annoying, often audible even over music...

I don't want to talk to India, and I want to mail my computer away even less.

ROFL, "i don't want to talk to India".

I have that hum/hiss sound too, but it's from the battery. It's only when it charges. If the battery is full there is no hiss/hum... is that your situation too? Or are you getting a hiss ALL THE TIME?

It just may be fans running. check the fans, and see if you should clean it out.

I take apart my M90 about every 6 months, and it's full of dust bunnies inside.

i dont think it's the fans...when i open a PDF and scroll around it's an easy way to make the noise change in volume for example

i removed the battery, no change

guess it's the mobo or something only fixable by dell...bah

edit: actually i'm pretty sure its the monitor. when the monitor shuts off, the noise stops.

Well, I started doing it because the GPU temp was getting high, and as suspected, it wasn't hardware problem, it just needed to be cleaned out.

Dust bunnies will not come out just by using canned air.

I've seen people having problems w/ fan noice, and GPU temp being high, and this has solved many of them.

i updated the BIOS... i was running A07 and went to A09... it did not fix the problem but it's significantly less irritating...

it's more of a uniform low hum now, before it would change in volume constantly making it a hell of a lot more noticable

i figured i should update this for anyone with the same problem:

USB selective suspend in power options causes this. by disabling it, the electrical hum is eliminated completely.
