So I accidentally left my month-old e1505 running today...

    Inside of a black bag
    Inside a car
    90 degree weather

    Oops.

Anyway, it came out pretty warm as you would imagine and the fan sounded terrible. I let it cool down and the fan shut off and I thought everything was fine.

Just now the fan kicked back on and it sounds awful again. Did I screw up the fan somehow? If it needs replaced can I get anything from Dell or am I on my own there?

    Thanks!

I wouldn't think the fan would be screwed up. I would only really worry if the noise is persistant over the next couple of days. I am sure you can get a replacement fan from Dell, it would be very easy to install youself. The other thing you can do is open up the laptop yourself, if you follow Dell's instructions online, it is not hard to get to it. You may be able to see if anything strange is going on. That is pretty amazing that the laptop did not explode in such hot wheather! :p

You might investigate the power saving setting in Windows called "When I close the lid on my computer..." :D

The supports for fans tend to become bendable at high temperatures. If they deform (which they easily do because of the torque) and cool down after that, the can stay deformed.

SO, yeah, your fan could be bust.

If it's only a month old it's still under warranty. It just all of a sudden started making noise....you have not idea why.

I have it stay on when I close the lid because I play music with it closed. I thought that it would go into standby though and for some reason it didn't.

It's still doing it right now a little over a day later. I'll open it up and then contact dell if necessary.

Did you by any chance have Accidental Damage warranty?

    I don't think so.

What's a new fan cost anyway? I can't imagine it's very much at all.
