I have a small business account with Dell and have two Inspiron 1300's purchased a couple of years ago. I decided in September to upgrade my main one and go for a Vostro 1700. It's the top spec one of that range, but is standard and not customised. I wanted to make sure I had it in time to be able to Format and reinstall XP ect on my old PC before November, as I plan to then give that one to my daughter for her B'day.
I placed my order and payed on October 5th. The est delivery date was on or before Oct 30, so no problem. I tried tracking the order on their website, but by last week nothing had changed so I rang them. Their answer was that the website tracking wasn't working and that my order was now in production and on time for the est delivery date. Then yesterday I got an email from them to say the est delivery date was now put back to ... DECEMBER 7th!!!!!!
That will be two months since I payed them! Is that acceptable in everybodies view? I don't think it is ... but what should I do?

It's unacceptable, but there's not much you can do. Either call them up and try to have them push it up (huge hassle, not guaranteed to succeed) or just cancel the order and buy from somewhere else.

Look at my signature...
Early 8/16 I fot an email from Dell telling me my order had been delayed. Later that day I got an email from the FTC telling me that because of the delays I suffered, I had the option to cancel the whole thing, without having to pay any fees(orders cannot be delayed to more than 45 days from the day of purchase- or at least I think that's what it was - without customer consent). So I did cancel, but two hours after that, I got an email from Dell saying the order had been shipped.
I'm not saying that will happen to you, but you may want to try and push them, if they don't respond, just follow Lithos advice. -
That is harsh, but this is what comes with buying from someone super super busy.
Demand compensation..
Good news, you won't have to buy a xmas present for your duaghter if it arrives at the 7th of December.. lol -
hahaha
I payed for my Dell (in sig) on 9 october. It's due for delivery tomorrow.
I guess I'm lucky then... -
Sorry my sig wasn't working...
Should be now.. -
I'm surprised a Vostro would be delayed 2 months. I thought it was mainly the colored Inspirons and XPS 1330 that saw delays -- unless you ordered one with something like that wireless N card that was out of stock.

Dell puts a 24 hour hold in the amount of the system cost on your credit card at the time of order to verify the funds are available. Dell does not actually charge your card where it will post to your account until the day the system is shipped.

Well they have mine. Funds were taken on the day of the order. Their customer service is open today, so I'll ring them to find out what's going on. What's most annoying is that when I rung just last week they said it was in production and still on time for the original delivery date?
What's the delay with the wireless N card? I didn't add that as extra, it comes as standard (is that where the dely is likely to be then?) Is wireless N that good? Would it be worth me asking them to just stick a wireless G in to speed things up? Perhaps I could swindle a 7200 HDD in place of the standard 5400 one?

Spoke to my Dell rep today and he says it's the T7300 processor that's in short supply worldwide? I can't really change that, so guess I'll just have to wait or cancel. He has said that it "should" be with me in the next two weeks and well before the new EDD of Dec7 .... I won't hold my breath!

I'll tell you what's unacceptable. My situation! I ordered my Xps 1730 on Oct 4th, received it on the 16th; found out there's no PhysX card in it, sent it to the dell depot and was told it'll take less than 5 days to have it sent back to me installed. It's been a week and a half already, no lap top, no communication from them, I have to hound them with phone calls and emails like I was a creditor or something. The delay doesnt bother me as much as the fact that they can't provide me with updated information on whats happening with my unit. All they say is, it's still being worked on. How long does it take to install a card and driver?!?! I'm so close to canceling my first payment.

Ivannn:
Compare the cost difference of the processor in the inpsiron 1520 and the vostro 1500. They absolutely gouge for the jump to the 7500 from the 7300 on the vostro, while it is nearly the same price difference between the 7250 and the 7500 on the inspiron. My point is, call in and scream about it, and get yourself a free upgrade to the 7500 if you can swing it.
If I recall correctly, it is $75 from the 7250 to the 7500 on the inspiron, and $65 from the 7250 to the 7300 on the vostro, then another the $90 (!) from the 7300 to the 7500, or $155 in all.
Good luck. -
Dell came through in the end. Just one week later than the original estimated date in the end. Very happy indeed with the Vostro 1700!
