    Hi guys,

I have been reading some reviews and stuff and found out that most of Acer and HP laptops have their HD5650 default clock set at 550Mhz/750Mhz.

Now my HD5650 is factory set at 450Mhz/800Mhz. So apparently it is slightly underclocked. Now with MSI afterburner I have set the clock to 550Mhz/800Mhz, so I have increased only core clock speed by 100Mhz so that it is the same as in other HD5650.

Should this be a problem of some sort? I figured, if its the same card, it shouldn't be a problem setting the same clock speeds as others? Also, with regards to heat, I do not see a difference because I have tested this, even during gaming. I just want to know whether I will be damaging the laptop - i know overclocking is bad, but even though I have just increased that 100Mhz to be like the other HD 5650s?

    Cheers!

Overclocking isn't bad, if its done correctly. My guess is that they underclocked it to lower heat and to save on battery.
Watch for heat, if it get to 90c its too hot. Also, watch for artifacts. You might be able to push the GPU further than 100mhz.

As long as you don't get crazy or you modify your cooling. As stated 85-90C is starting to get into the danger zone. Make sure you benchmark it to test for stability.

My aim is not to clock it more than the normal hd 5650's because I think that heat would become a problem otherwise. with and without the extra 100Mhz the maximum temperature the GPU reached was 88 Degrees, while playing battlefield bad company 2. However, I always use a notebook cooler when gaming.

So other than heat, there is really no other problem? The fps gain is minimal 5/6 fps, so I want to know whether it is worth it or not.

    Thanks for the replies.

88c is very hot, I would clean your fans and repaste asap!

Running at temps that hot is very dangerous, it can lower the life of your laptop drastically
