I just got my m1330, but the base of it is uneven and wobbles from side to side. I read somewhere that its the builders screwed the screws on too tightly as to why it's uneven. Is this the case possibly or do have to ask dell for a replacement?

Also, theres this whining sound coming from the lower right side of the notebook, is this that CPU everyone is talking about?

One more thing, the HDD is sticking out just a slight bit (is not flushed). Is there anything I can do about that?

    1. Try a different battery if you don't want to hassle returning the machine; 2 out of 3 batteries I own are fine, while the 3rd causes it to wobble.

    2. Probably. CPU whine, in my experience, is usually not audible, unless it's really quiet in the room. Try switching to Power Saver or High Performance mode to see if it goes away, and also disable power management on the BT card, if you have it.

    3. I've swapped the HDD from one M133O to another and it didn't fit as well in the new one. It should be almost PERFECT, with that emphasis, not stick out as much as, say, the remote does.

Ah, so the battery is the culprit, eh? I have a 6-cell. Maybe I can get dell to change the battery instead....

I'll see if I can try out the other options to the CPU later on....

My e1705 wobbled too, come to find out it was my desk! The surface was uneven.

Check your desk just in case. LOL.

Open the Lid, hold the opposite corners and bend it a little. all my laptops have wobbled and now are perfect otherthan the whine.

This really works, i read this on the forum.

i guess it'll only work if there is a slight wobble... i had nothing to lose since i was sending mine back anyway and it worked. :) It sat perfectly afterwards.

I guess the laptop is made out of some sort of metal that has very slight flexibility.

And i'm not saying bend it hard, just "slightly" and "lightly", if that doesn't work, get a replacement. you can keep your current one until then and when your new one arrives, you can try slightly harder to see if it makes another difference lol ;-)

Well, I'm not so confident about the bending part...lol

But besides the wobble, this whistling sound the m1330 is giving off is beginning to give me a headache.........odd......

Send it back if the whine bothers you. You are probably the rare few with sensitive hearing in that frequency range. Some people can hear it, clearly while others may not notice it at all.
Ever heard of a Teen Buzz (Mosquito Ringtone) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosquito_Ringtone

    Kinda the same concept....

This does work. My laptop wobbled quite a bit. I opened the lid, placed the laptop diagonally over my leg and then pushed on opposite corners. Problem solved.

As for the whine, that's probably something you'll have to live with. Some people hear it, some don't. Depends on how sensitive your ears are and where you use your laptop (how loud the ambiance is). I don't think sending for a replacement will solve this problem.

Yea, I do plan on asking for a replacement.....

As for the mosquito thing, I heard it one time when they demoed it on the news channel. That I found to be very annoying

Ask someone to come into a room with the laptop and have them listen for the sound. Don't tell them what sound to listen for, just ask them if they hear anything out of the ordinary.

I'm not the only one in my house that can hear the whining of the m1330. I say faulty components, and not sensitive hearing.

Be sure to mention how frustrating the whining is, so that they'll give you an upgrade or something :p.

omg!! received m1330 with wobble and cpu whine. technician came out to replace motherboard, cpu, fan. had to take the whole laptop apart (treated it so rough! left finger marks all over the screen, forced bits apart, etc. etc. i would not recommend getting the base changed or anything replaced)

made the whine worse. after long conversations with technical support ordered a replacement. i insisted they check the laptop for wobbly base and cpu whine before they send it.

so it arrives with no cpu whine and wobbly base!! i didnt wanna risk another replacement for the cpu whine is unbearable, however i didnt like the prospect of wobbly base everytime i place my hands on the keyboard.

just read bbasra's post about bending the laptop. worked like a charm!! (i had my previous m1330 to test on first) thankyou so much now i can finally enjoy my super powerful m1330.

Can you explain it in detail as to how exactly it is to be bended?

Someone else once explained it as putting it over your knee and applying pressure to opposite corners.
