Anyone know a fix? It is uneven to the left of the Dell symbol.

I was lucky enough to get a screen that isn't terrible, but I have the cpu whine. So HOORAY!

The bezel just might not be snapped on fully. Get a popsickle stick, or something similar that won't scratch the plastic easily, and gently try to push the bezel on. If that doesn't work, or the bezel is broken, just call dell and they will send someone out to fix it.

It does not work with just pushing it in, if you look at the notebook carefully, the poor craftsmanship has caused this uneven bezel problem, i have the same issue with mine. Oh mine has cpu whine too...its really annoying.

Does anyone has a m1530 with no cpu whine? I remember when i first got it, it made no noise at all...right after i tweaked the bios the problem occured...argh. (I tried resetting the bios, didn't work)

Wrap a mallet (wooden hammer) with microfiber cloth on its head. A whack or two should set the bezel right!

You can request XPS support to replace it, but it means tech will open your lappy up, and may butcher it.

Yeah, that's my concern. I think I'll just live with it. I was able to fix the whining with RMClock, so while it wasn't perfect out of the box I'm still satisfied.

I have similar issue with mine, the bottom piece bows out and the right side of the upper piece. Having a tech to replace that means risking big time something else may break.

It has nothing to do with clips, the clips are only on the outer edge (where the plastic bezel meets the lid) while the inner edge where the screen is, the bezel should just "sit" there, assuming all the parts are properly aligned. Having an extra thin plastic bezel like the one we have does not help either due to flex. I have yet to see a bezel issue like this in the past 15 years, surely I've seen bezel broke or chipped, but not like this...

Like the other poster said, it is just poor assembly.

Good to hear I'm not the only one.

I have one more question for the 1330 owners. Is the optical drive on yours quite loud on startup? Mine is so loud that I'd be embarrassed to turn it on in a classroom.

The drive is noisy in comparison. But I was conditioned by my daughter's MBP when she first bought it, I thought something didn't sound right, but I no longer pay much attention to it. However, the bezel bugs me a lot, and the fact that it is trapping some dirt.

My bezel on my first m1330 was bowed out on the bottom towards the left, and my replacement has a bowed out bezel in the exact same spot. Just poor design I guess, but not a dealbreaker for me.

However, I have noticed something else that concerns me a bit with my replacement: at the top of the bezel, just left of the left microphone and directly under the webcam, the display sort of ripples when the machine is moved even slightly--even just from typing. What I mean by rippling is the effect that you can see if you put your finger on the screen and put pressure on it. At first I suspected that there was an errant wire behind the bezel putting pressure on the screen, but I pulled the bezel up and didn't see anything. It seems like maybe the bezel itself is putting pressure on the screen. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? It's not noticeable enough that it disrupts me when I am trying to work with my machine, but I am worried that this will eventually damage the display somehow.

EDIT: Just popped the top part of the bezel out again and had a look around, noticed that it bows inwards towards the webcam, gave it some gentle bending and very carefully snapped it back into place...the problem seems to be gone now. It seems like there is less space behind the panel there or something, and the bezel was pushing too hard and forcing the LCD panel into whatever is behind it. Maybe my slight bending fixed it, or maybe I just pushed the bezel back in so gently that it is not 100% snapped in even though it appears to be. In any case, I am not gonna touch it any more. :p

lol I'd pry the bezel off myself and have a look but I'm not sure if I want to risk damaging the screen in the process. I cause plenty of ripples just GENTLY tugging at it, I don't want to know what it looks like when I tug hard enough to pry it off.

Its a manufacturing defect, you should call in and ask for a replacement.

A replacement for the bezel or a replacement of the entire unit?

Whelp, I contacted technical support and they are sending out a replacement screen/bezel. I didn't want to get a brand new system since that is a crapshoot and I could live with this screen if I had no choice. I just want the damn bezel fixed.

Mine was uneven at the top (bowed outwards) and it turned out to be a piece of plastic (resembling part of a retaining clip) but I couldn't trace its origin. I took a pic of the bowed bezel before I removed the object.

I accepted such issues back when the M1330 first came out and orders were back-logged, but it's harder to accept that these kind of issues are still around...

Guys, the protruding bezel is a very common issue, and is caused by a fat cable beneath the bezel. When I had my LED screen replaced, the tech noticed this, and attempted to fix it for at least twenty minutes to no avail. It's honestly not that big of a problem, you barely notice it in real world usage, and honestly I didn't even notice it until people pointed it out on these forums.

But, if you really insist, call Dell and have them send a tech to look at it. You may or may not get it fixed.
