Yes. Another thread regarding delays, and what truth there is behind them. I was told multiple times that there are no longer delays on screens, but received the following email this morning:

    Dear Scott,

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

This is to inform you that it will not show online but yes the LCD screen and the processor is on a backlog for estimated 13 business days. I have again clarified with the helpdesk about this.

    Thank you for choosing Dell.

    Thanks and Regards
    Deepti Walia(Nikki)
    Case Manager.

I love the Americanized name...lol. Also, the LCD she is referring to is the WXGA+ and the processor is the T7300 (which I can believe being delayed more than the screen as this processor goes into many models).

Moral of the story. No one really knows what the hell is going on at Dell. :D

WXGA+ is 1440x900 resolution (advertised as HD by Dell). WXGA is 1280x800.

I think I have a theory for delays. Only people who got multiple coupons/discounts applied are delayed. e.g. people who got 1500$ worth (discounted as per website) of laptop for 1200$ (by using further student or EPP discounts from their employer). Does that theory apply to many of us? It applies to me at least and I am seeing it applies to buckeye with $1153.

It is entirely possible that orders that fall below a price threshold are delayed just to make large numbers in the month/quarter using larger/pricier orders, because the money doesn't land with Dell unless the order is shipped out.

I find it hard to believe that the delays are due to glass shortage. People, who ordered Jet Black on 30th Jul, even 31st Jul, are already enjoying their lappies. That's purely lid delay, not the glass shortage, as my rep would have me believe.

I called in to the modification department today morning and asked them about my midnight blue screen/lid. The rep who took my call was fairly nice and told me that they are getting the lid from the manufacturer by the end of this week or by next week at the latest.

In regards to the pricing theory....I suppose it seems viable. I had ordered a 1521 (big mistake) through Ohio State's EPP site. Found a $300 off any Inspiron $1299 or more coupon online, and reordered my 1520 :)D). However, Dell's in a new financial quarter now, as the 2nd has passed, so there really isn't an immediate need to push hard for big sales numbers.

I'll tell you where it is...in the hot air that HCW spews from his mouth. He trolls threads like this and makes all of us feel dumb for calling up those "Dell CS Peons." Yet when rubber hits the road, he stays silent.

I am going to take a shot in the dark and say that he doesn't have the number.

Actually, I more convinced of this. If people get bored of waiting and decide to cancel their order, which one of the following does Dell benefit from: a high priced order getting canceled or a low price order getting canceled? So, who do they hurry up? You don't have to have a PhD in maths to figure that out.... :D

In nutshell, we are screwed... :D
