so i spilt water all over my keyboard  and now i have an unusual keyboard problem.

this is, i believe a malfunction specific to dell. more on that after i tell you what the issue is!

    when i type
    g
    i get
    g5

    when i type
    h
    i get
    h6

    when i type
    '
    i get
    '-

and there are lots of problems like this! the complete list:

    g → g5
    5 → g5
    h → h6
    6 → h6
    ' → '-
    - → '-
then all of the above with the shift key held down:
    G → G%
    % → G%
    etc

    other problems:
    • hitting CTRL seems to keep CTRL "held down" for a while e.g. when browsing, hitting CTRL followed by w will close the tab. i have found that the left/right arrow keys can cancel this effect.
    • while browsing, when scrolling up and down, down scrolls as normal but up will always shoot me back right to the top of the page

googling the issue brings up several threads like this. all dells! it looks like a mobo problem. but before i called dell support i thought i would check out what you guys thought.

I'd second this. Though given that you've spilled water on your machine, I wouldn't be surprised if the water damaged the motherboard as well...

It's tempting to go straight for the mobo seeing as the guy in that link I posted found that replacing the keyboard did not help. But mobos are more expensive.

Ya I would second that. Water damage may not even be apparently for years.

Try a new keyboard first on Ebay, it can't be more than like 30 bucks.
