    Hi all,
I recently had a little incident that rendered my old Inspiron 6400 unusable (and a biohazard; it got barfed on). Anyway, fortunately my CompleteCare warranty isn't up until May and I managed to get a replacement--but the tech said he couldn't guarantee that all the specs of the new laptop would be as good as my old ones. He wrote in his notes that I needed a 1680*1050 screen or larger and a dedicated graphics card (I do a lot of image editing), but what are the chances that I'll get a computer back that doesn't have these? Also, if anyone knows what replacement they'd send out for this, that'd be great. Thanks!

I think its in the TOS somewhere that they will give you equal or better specs... just look in the fine print and see if oyu find it

I asked; he said "It depends on system availability." I also don't want to wind up with a crappy Celeron processor; it'd be a pretty bad warranty if I wind up with a single-core proc after paying $300 for the extension.

    EDIT:
"If we decide that it is necessary to replace the Computer Device rather than repair it, you will
receive a Computer Device equivalent to or better than the Computer Device you originally
purchased from us, as determined by us in our sole and reasonable discretion."
    (From the TOS.)

I doubt you are going to get a Celeron, worst youll get is probably a core duo.
The E1505/6400 was never offered with an integrated graphics card. Their are three possibilities, the nVidia Geforce go 7300, ATi X1300 and ATi X1400.
The X1400 is the most powerful of the three, so hope for that.

I love my E1505, great performance and a very stable system overall.

Do you know what your specs of your Dell are?
I am sure Dell will give you something as good or as close to what you have as possible.
If you upgraded anything, and they do not have note of it onlne, your upgrade is now theirs

Yep; I upgraded to the 1680*1050 screen and I already had the Radeon X1400. Hoping for another 6400; it was a great machine until it got barfed on. Otherwise, as long as it performs the same I'm happy.

The 6400/1505 was available with the Intel integrated graphics. We have a few of them running around.

He will likely get something a little newer at this point. Maybe he'll score a studio 15.

Hmm. Just looked at the Studio 15s. They have a big screen, an available graphics card and Core 2 duos. One of those would work really well as a replacement.

Dell definitely has parts around for them, so youre getting a E1505 back
Last summer I had my touchpad go bad and they gave me a whole new lower shell for my system. I want expecting it but they did. They must have a few tremendous warehouse's for parts

Sure, but that was last year. Remember, they said they were going to replace the whole thing. Unless they have a few whole spare systems with my specs lying around, I'm guessing they won't be able to do it.

Think about it this way, they need to have a ton on storage for at least another 3 years. I bought mine with a 5 year warranty on my machine, and its just shy of 2 years old. They need to give replacement systems in regards to the warranty, so I think your getting another E1505. Its a great system, so its nothing to be ashamed about

That's great news. I was really worried I'd wind up with something worse.

Well, I got a refurbished Studio 1537 for my defective E1505 at the end of this January. My E1505 came with a T7200 CPU which has 4MB cache, so Dell put a T9400 with 6MB cache in my S1537. After I got the S1537, Dell also replaced the screen (1900x1200) because of the backlit light leaking and motherboard because of the video ram error. Dell also throw in a new top lid with pattern graphic.

Although I had problems with Dell, I am happy with my whole experience so far. I jus extended the warranty for 5 years NBD onsite with complete care for $350 after $75 Dell GiftCard.

4GB and 6GB L2 cache? Try cutting that down 3 decimal places. :p
