I have been debating on a laptop for months now...Really wanting one about Mid April...I have just been sitting back waiting on all the "new" ones to be released...Does anyone have ANY idea if there are new ones to come out before or around April....And before anyone gets cute, I know you can't look into your crystal ball and foretell the future...It is just a simple question... I know the XPS 1530 and 1525 are new but I am just curious to know if anyone has "heard" of anything new from Dell...Thanks Y'all!

There might be a 16-inch XPS with a design similar to the 15inch and 13 inch XPS's. There might also be a ultraportable with a very thin, carbon-fibre design. No clue if they'll be available before April though.

Since the Montevina refresh is slated for May 18th, I'd expect new models by late May or early June.

TY Chelet, I don't even like the looks of that one though! Of course this will be my first laptop therefore I know nothing about them lol..It may very well be a good one..

I love the colors of the Inspirons and the thinness of the XPS (and the specs)....wish I could combine the two lol..

Don't worry, those Montevina buyers in the Spring/Summer will have their own chance of feeling "outdated" when Calpella comes out in early 2009.

It is the same design, only in a 16".
The one you linked to is actually more interesting (IMO).

After all of the problems with the new Dells as of late, I'd be very suspicious of anything else this company produces.

If you wait for the next "best" model, that improves upon whatever is out there, you'll gain a real world value of about 5 miliseconds for about $1000 more than something that performs at the same in almost every single real world instance, short of a few microseconds.

Get something that has stood the tests, isn't in R&D repayment plans and is proven in the community to not have many problems as well as built sturdy.

The XPS's rock (last years- this years are lame, really... fancy cases and the latest cutting edge components produced at a lot less quality than 2 years ago to make up for problems in the plants in Asia and the banking crisis situation), and the macbook pro's too- and they can use bootcamp (so they'll run windows and windows apps) and the HP dv8000 series are quite nice, though almost 2 years old. There is also a PC version using the SAME CHASSIS as the macbooks but all PC laptop stuff, though it's not cheap.
Remember, newer models are not necessarily better- usually the manufacturers are looking for ways to cut costs, buy cheaper components and make more money- look at the difference between the HP dv6000/8000 series and the 7000/9000 series- the earlier ones rocked, the new ones suck. Same with Dell and the XPS- the 1710's rock, everything else is P&R hype and just fancy components repackaged for 3x the cost. Same with Alienware, which is normal stuff you can get yourself, shoved in painted cases at 3-4x the cost of the components.

Hey it's about profit and making money.
People gotta live and investers want recoup!

Skip the P&R stuff and get something from last year that rocked that you like- that's my advice after 22 years and tons of gear.
    Well I doubt I helped here... DOH!~

    *grin*

(p.s. if you're on a budget, the dell 1705 or 9400's from last year rocked. They really are sturdy and the price has come down a lot. If you can go another repackager (remember, dell doesn't make computers, they assemble them) then if you like thin, the ASUS W2 series uses the EXACT SAME case as the fancy apple macbook pros everyone loves... and if you want it silver just take it to a paint shop and have them mask and spray it for ya in aluminum or titanium paint.)

I've been pondering the idea of a M1330 for the last week, but I think I'll wait for the next chipset since the details look beneficial, such as improved power management.

Also, I saw this story over at Gizmodo about the Lenovo X300 and now I'm wondering if perhaps I should go for that? But I'm thinking it wouldn't game as well as a XPS M1330.

The Inspiron 1526 is expected to come out. It should be just like the 1525, but with an AMD CPU.

The Vostro 1200 has already been launched in some other countries. So it may come to the USA.

With the Inspiron 1520 being replaced by the 1525, the Vostro 1500 (an all-black 1520) may also be replaced by something based on the 1525.

I think they are trying to move away from using dedicated cards in there consumer notebooks. More heat, less battery and results in a thicker case. My predictions is we will see the XPS line come down in price, and fill in the gaps between the insprion line, and something like the 1730. I think the 1530, and 1330 are designed very well, its just quality control is something that dell needs to step up. If you can wait, wait as long as possible. There is always something new, but if don't need anything right now, just keep looking around and keep your eyes and ears open.

Than that would mean an XPS M1430 is coming, right? ;)

After the introduction of Inspiron 1525, I think there will be a 1425 coming soon. It will share similar profile of 1525, just shorter in each side, pretty much the same as HP notebook sharing similar design for DV2xxx, DV6xxx.
