I'm posting this as a new thread so that anyone else who is dealing with their HD being back-ordered can see my information.
I hung up with Dell XPS Support a little while ago and this is what I've found out:
The 250GB 7200RPM HDs are on back-order, which we already know, BUT they expect to have them in stock again within a week.
Okay, so for the minor update in my order regarding which HD I'm going with - I was told that to switch the hard drive I'd have to cancel my order and re-order, in which case I would a) lose my sale price and b) be moved to the back of the queue. Since it's been a week since I placed my order, the Dell support guy flagged my order to be expedited (whether or not this will actually do anything I do not know) and upgraded me to free next-day shipping. He is supposed to call me on Monday with an update. So due to his information I chose to stick with the 250GB 7200RPM drive. Canceling/re-ordering would have taken just as long as waiting for what I already ordered, so I may as well just wait.
-
When did you initially order it?
-
As I said in the original post, "It's been a week since I ordered."
So I ordered last Thursday, April 24th. -
I ordered my m1530 two days ago with teh 250 gb 7200 rpm hard drive and my expected delivery date is May 28th which I am certainly not happy about. however, I have reason to hope because my sound card and keyboard that were within my order had an expected ship date of June 11th and they shipped today, so the predicted date might just be a precaution on dell's part.
-
My expected delivery date is May 23rd and my laptop had not changed its status since April 24th.
I don't know your specifications on your system but on mine I had the T8300, 4GB RAM, 1920x1200 widescreen, 9-cell battery, and the 250GB HD. Apparently the only part they do not currently have is the HD and they have everything else already.
Anyway, my point was that you may solely be waiting on the HD and if you call them they'd tell you what they're waiting on, but since you just ordered two days ago I'd wait another few days. -
I ordered a m1530 on april 21st. Est ship date has been pushed back to 5/5. They gave me the same reason for the delay. They also said that the LED screens have been on back order. So people who got the LED screens will also have to wait for a while. -
I have the 250GB HDD and the LED screen. I ordered on April 18th with an estimated ship date of April 28th. It was later delayed until May 5th. I emailed Dell and they upgraded me to overnight shipping, but gave no indication as to what the delay was.

k updates on my order which was placed on 14th(!!)
WUXGA screen and 250@7200 HDD (both of which caused my xps to be delayed...how can i get more unlucky)
k i just got off the phone with a sales rep who actually cancelled my order adn re-placed it. I swapped the harddrive to 320@5400 and upgraded the wireless to intel N, which brought the overall price down by like 20 bucks. He said he will make them continue to work on my previous system so they don't have to build everything from scratch and he also expedited the order to the factory (i dunno if that does anything). he told me to expect it shipped by next week.
@ringleader,
you should call them again and make them re-place your order with the same price (or less), if you are willing to 'downgrade' to 320GB HDD
whoever is in charge of the inventory at dell needs to be sacked -
Dell have never allowed any changing of your order - you have to cancel and reorder. It's always been like that.
-
Dell can't even throw an extra adapter in the box without cancelling the order and making a new one.

i ordered on the 14th of april with an estimated delivery date of 28th april, my order was delayed untill the 8th of may due to part shortage (hard drive 7200 250gb) , but today it shipped!
-
so for the wait on the HDs, the wait time was a week from what day? i ordered my m1530 on the 22 and my ship date is 5/8-5/12. i just really want my laptop and i cant believe that one stupid part is holding up the whole thing.

What phone number are you guys calling to have the free shipping upgrade? Any number I call and get India techs support they wont do a thing.
-
You need to contact Customer Care not Technical Support. Technical Support cannot do anything. I believe it is option 4 for any US number, or for the voice activated numbers, say "customer care"
-
I dont know if the model number makes a difference, but I ordered my m1330 with 250G 7200 RPM, 4GB and 2.5Ghz on 4/22 and it shipped on 4/27. I received on the 4/29.
-
Well, the guy I spoke to said they expect to have the part in within a week. I talked to him yesterday, so May 8th, but I'd just go ahead and say May 9th to cover all of next week.

Hello
I attempted to purchase a 1530 with a 250 GB Hard Drive,7200RPM (UK) and was told it couldnt be done as there are some technical issues...they stated that it can now only be 200GB.
I spec'ed up a unit last week there was no mention of this and I got a quote for a 1530 with a 250HD
Can anyone shed any light on this, thanks .

Really? Now that's interesting. When the guy calls me back on Monday I'll see what he says about that.
-
Ring,
I've sent an email to the Sales Rep asking for further info. I've got a feeling that she only said that for a quick sale, however one mustn't assume .

The option for a 250GB 7200RPM drive was definitely there for at least two weeks or so whilst I was doing my advance recon.
Quite possibly that is true. Unless you need the system ASAP, it might be worth it to wait til the end of next week and see whether or not they get the HDs in stock.
Update on 250GB 7200RPM HDs/minor update on my order
