So far have had the MB replaced and the sound card replaced - thankfully got onsite warranty..i've got no idea how u guys have the patience to send it back.
Both replacements have not fixed the noise. The onsite tech called up dell tech who said they're still searching for a fix to the problem and will contact me again tomorrow.

I doubt if Dell will be able to do anything.
If you're interested in a not-too-expensive workaround...

Yeah i tried some USB headphones with no noise at all. But im happy to keep going with this other issue in case i may get some compensation out of it.
-
How loud is the noise? Even ipods have slight hissing sound with good earfones on. what is hear depends a lot on the type of earfones as well. A good pair of inears will pick up noise from anyting, even top end MP3 players and stereos. USB headfones are incomparable.
My acer had very audible hissing sound and same can be said for everyother ntoebook with the onboard sound cards. Its just the level of technology on notebooks and onboard soundcards.
what were your expectations? I doubt you'll ever be happy if you expect a complete silent headfone jack. they dont exist.
I doubt the sound can be heard while you are actually listening to music or playing games. I dont understand why people care about sounds that they only hear when nothing is played through the jack. just turnt he speaker off or take out your earbuds. -
^Nah they do exist..i used the headphones on my brothers laptop and theres not the slightest noise. Plus yes it can beheard whilst listening to music and playing games (that is the only reason why i have a problem with it) you can hear it making the buzzing sound in the background and sometimes making that morse code noise.

ok. Thats different then. Fairenough.
some unshielded speakers can have these problems when placed closed to the monitor as well. -
Hi,
Wel I also have the annoying headphone noise. But I kinda fixed my problem by using a headphone that has a volume control build in. Setting the volume control on max. I can hear the noise but by lowering a bit the sound is goneI never set the volume control on max. so this is a great fix for me.
When using a headphone without the volume control I will hear the noise nonstop. -
But anyway think ill stick with the USB headphones atm...until they can think of some way to solve the problem..will be interesting. -
Just got my 1520 back from the repair center, headphone noise still there.
-
i had mine repaired....now the buzzing static/bleeping is gone
only background static (which i sort of expect....) -
Odd... I have zero noise from my headphone jack...
-
Weird, it seems to be hit or miss with headphone noise, but when it's there, its annoying as can be.
Its like little Dell demons send me messages in morse code when trying to listen to lectures on it. -
Well Dell didnt call me today...tho theyd been good with the onsite service..guess will have to call them tomorrow.
-
I have the headphone noise, but I can barely hear it anyways when nothing is playing. I'm just happy that's the biggest problem I've encountered with my laptop so far.
-
Well Dell called me last night and said they've still got absolutely no idea how to fix this problem and will keep in touch with me over the next few weeks. I asked if they're giving out any compensation bout twice and the guy just ignores and is like yeah we're just looking for a fix atm..
