Hey guys, last thread got closed so I just wanted to keep everyone informed. I talked to the Dell reps and they said that they would replace it for me. I actually have a trip to Japan and Korea from the States coming up on the 26th so I asked how long it would take. He said it would take about 2 weeks because the laptop had to be sent back to the depot.

I didn't really want to take the risk, so they're offering to send me a keyboard and that I could replace it myself. Anyone have any experience replacing laptop keyboards or if it's even recommended?

Thanks for everyones advice! Hopefully there will be no bashing in this thread.

It's simple as it can be. Mine is only 2 screws. Just go to Dell website and look for your notebook model service manual, and fellow the instructions. Please make sure you don't scratch the surface when you use the screw driver.

The reason your thread was closed because of it's Illegalities (fraud).
Making a new thread on the same topic is never wise.

Yeah, its a cinch. Pry off the cover place over the keyboard(look for a recessed area that allows you to squeeze under it with a flat-head screw driver) and carefully peel it back. Then remove 2 screws, tilt the bottom of the keyboard up and carefully dislodge the parallel cable thats hooked up from the keyboard to the mainboard, and re-do the steps backwords with the new keyboard in place of the old one.

Shouldnt take more then 5 minutes.

    Easy as everyone says,

Roll you're monitor back as fast as it will go, get a flat head screw drive put tape around it so you don't scratch anything. Pop off the hinge cover and everything is exposed. Remove the two screws on the top of the keyboard and carefully, pry it upwards, once you clear enough room under it disconnect the cable and repeat the process in reverse to install the new keyboard.

this is RIDICULOUS advice. the job literally takes 2 mins if you know what you're doing. if you' never done it before, it takes about 4 min.

DO NOT send your computer in for this.
