I've found a very simple hassle free way to get the dell 1520 at a great price. Use the coupon! Dell has just given free upgrades to hard drive and ram, making the student discount and all that hassle a bad idea. I first did the student price (on july 4th so i had the best discounts, 292 and 200 off and 4% ;). I talked to the same rep and he just canceled it and got me a BETTER system at a LOWER price than my first one. Heres the EASIEST way to do it.

    1) call the sale rep Lance at 1800-901-3355 extension 9570311. If his trainee answers the phone ask for Lance, or if you want to be a nice guy try to do it through him. He is slower and may not know this coupon though.

    2) Mention the DELL COUPON on this site and the coupon number, and start building your 1520!

    3) Get a great deal, much better than what you could have got with the student discounts last week.

There you go! Best of all ANYONE can do this, not just students.

Remember we're all in this together, I'm pulling for you.

Keep your stick on the ice!

    EDIT: sig update.

Are you saying that the only discount you applied to was the $350 one? Did you get any warranty and accidental protection?

    Sweeeeeeeet!

I'm so glad I've waited till after 4th of July. I was expecting deals like that - I mean a free upgrade to a bigger HDD and more RAM - and applying a -$350 coupon to it!

    I just got this:
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7100 (1.8GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
    Jet Black
FREE! 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667MHz
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1440x900)
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8600M GT
    160G 7200RPM SATA HDD
Genuine Windows ® Vista Home Premium Edition
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
CD / DVD writer (DVD+/-RW Drive)
    High Definition Audio 2.0
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini-Card
    Integrated 2.0M Pixel Webcam
6-cell Primary Battery and 9-cell additional Lithium Ion Battery
1Yr Ltd Warranty and Mail-In Service
    Built-in Bluetooth capability (2.0 EDR)

    for exacly $1,173.79.
I think that's a really fair price! Especially for Santa Rosa T7100, GF8600, 2Gigs of RAM, BigAss hard drive, a webcam, 2 batteries and all that extras.
It's the shipping date that got me worried - 08/06/2007. I hope they'll actually do better than that!

Ok, anyways - 2 thumbs up for Dell for todays deal + (-$350) coupon!

No i didnt get any warranty, im very protective and careful with my things. I canceled my first order, so unless your 1520 has been shipped, cancel it! or if you dont want to wait even LONGER to get it, then keep yours.

If you don't buy the extended warranty you can always get it later. We use a lot of dells at my job and we constantly get letters in the mail to extend the current warranties.

I am considering redoing my order. Does the 12% coupon still work? Did any of you guys get the protection plan? I reconfigured my system with better specs and it came out to be around the same price, but still in it's $1400. But I got the DellCare Plus...

Alot of the reps do not know about the 350 off discount form this site. The dell coupon tab above. Call the rep i posted and you shouldnt have a problem, he never even heard of that discount before, but i told him the code and didnt have any problems from there.

I'm not sure why people would call for ordering instead of ordering online. I didn't get extra discounts by ordering by phone.

If you're stubborn, Dell reps are allowed to give you a discount on top of whatever you're already getting to "seal the deal." They can knock some money off, throw in accessories, or a combination. It's usually worth it to call, provided you get a helpful rep and are capable of being persuasive.

When i configure online what i got i get 1262 BEFORE taxes, after taxes it would be like 1320, on the phone it was the price in my sig. Ive never had luck with anyone knocking my price any lower, and ive been through 10+ reps, on the phone with each one for an hour at least. Usually more.

But using real people will often times get you better deals because they have the right to "close the deal", they can get you that extra $50 off, and also have the ability to move through the dell site with much more ease.
The dell website is like a maze designed to trap people into only mediocre prices.

My rep, who i recommend to anyone, was really helpful on making a decision on something i was unsure about, warranties hardware accessories whatever. People like buying from people more than from a machine.
