How can I update to the latest version on ATI's site properly?

Run the installer then cancel after the extraction but just before it installs...
In device manager, uninstall the existing ATI driver...(this step optional as you would have to rescan for hardware changes to redetect the GPU for next step)
Right clk on ATI in device manager and select 'Update Driver' then point to the .inf located in the extracted Catalyst ATI folder usually under C:
Thats it in a nutshell...works with both XP/Vista
BTW: Latest ATI Mobility WHQL-signed Vista x64 driver avail from: catalog.update.microsoft.com -
The latest driver I see on the microsoft site is from June 08.
http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=ati 3400
The driver on Windows Update is from 9/25.
If I get the driver off ATI's site, do I want just the driver or the software suite? -
I currently have the Dell driver from their website installed.

ATI Mobility 3450/3650 same diff since its a unified driver backwards compatible with most ATI GPUS...
With the x64 driver above, installed via the device manager by pointing to the CH_69660.inf file in the extracted .cab downloaded from update catalog...

For x86 driver search 'ATI Mobility', latest x86 driver looks like v8.531.0.0 which isn't that much newer than the v8.530 avail at: http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx -
No luck, it says the driver installed is already up to date.
-
you could use the mobility modder tool to modify the catalyst drivers for use with your studio gpu
-
Keep in mind for those with Optiarc Blu-ray drive using non-WHQL ATI drivers may hose bluray movie discs... -
I don't have BR nor do I plan to get one for my laptop. I just want the best gaming performance I can get off this machine.
The question still remains which package do I download off ATI, the software suite or the driver and control center separately? -

Question about Mobility Modder, when I get to this step:
5: Run Mobility Modder - browse to the driver in C:ATI/SUPPORT/ - an example of Catalyst 7.4 would be C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 - hit modify. Wait until driver is modified.
Do I just point MM to the ccc_enu folder or do I actually dig deeper and find exactly where the drivers are? If so what is the exact directory they are in? -

Perfect timing...official Catalyst 8.10 just got released... -
