I did a clean install of Vista and am now trying to install some of the applications off of the Upgrade Assistant DVD, but many of the zip files are password protected. What is the password for opening the Roxio Creator DE installer?

I'm assuming that it's UAC that's asking for a password.

You need to be signed on as an administrator to install new software in Vista.

Either change to an administrator user account and then try to install again, or install from your current sign in and enter the password you used to set up your administrator account when prompted.

Like I said, the zip files are password protected.

Oh, sorry if I over-simplified your problem.

I just put-in my Upgrade Assistant DVD and I am able to access and unzip all of the files on the DVD. I guess I have no idea about why you're asked for a password.

I don't know if it will work for you, but I noticed that you don't have to access the zipped files to install these apps. Just go find the setup.exe file for each program.

    For instance go to dellvistaupgrade>apps>powerDVD>ap6dvd26>setup.exe

    I hope this helps.

That's fine for PowerDVD, but the only file in the Roxio Creator folder is Creator_DE.zip

Also, is it unusual that none of the programs in the DellVistaUpgrade directory do anything when I run them? (netInstall, etc.)

I'm not near my upgrade DVD right now, so I can't check the exact name, but when I looked at it earlier today, I saw that there was another folder in the apps folder that is called Roxio_(something I forget). There's a setup.exe file in there that will work for you.

There is Roxio MyDVD, but that's not what I'm looking for.

I e-mailed the DellVistaUpgrade people a week ago, and still have not heard back from them. I also talked to Dell tech support, who assured me they would send me the "right" disk, but instead sent me my 5th copies of all of the XP software.

Hey guys, whats exaclty this "Upgrade assistant" does? ... Is it used to upgrade Vista versions (home basic, home premium) to higher versions (business, ultimate)?

If you buy a home basic from dell... and want to update it to ultimate, there is any way to do that with the WinVista homebasic DVD from dell??

You can always upgrade with Windows Anytime Upgrade, although going from Home Basic to Ultimate will probably cost a pretty penny. This is in no way related to the Dell Upgrade Assistant DVD, which is a disk with Dell drivers and applications that comes with the Vista Express Upgrade.

    What files?

I know what he is referring to. Some of the zip files contain the software included on some people's computers. However they are password protected. I just dropped the disc in my XP laptop and checked with Winzip and the entire contents are protected.

Oh right I understand, so the files in the zip are only for people who already have the software under xp and what to update it via the vista assitant thingy. Oh well no free software for me then.
