    Hello

This is Kumar. I from India. I have been a dell customer for more than 8 years and have been an XPS user.

But since Dell India has shifted gears and stopped selling XPS 14 ans XPS 15 in India :(, I am left with Inspiron as the only choice, latitudes are the only ones with Full HD screen in India.

Inspiron 15R SE seems to be good bang for the buck, but in India, it comes only with 720p screen.

I am long used to Full HD screens. So I just cannot digest 720p screen.

Thinking of upgrading the screen (after market) to 1080p to get around the problem.

Any one having any experiences upgrading screen to higher resolutions, Please help me.

Note: I have to stick to Dell as I have Dell credit for my XPS L501X.

    Appreciate your assistance.

    Thanks.
    Kumar

Assuming the motherboard is the same than on the US versions (probably is), you'll likely need the right LVDS cable and the 1920x1080 display, that should be it.

Thank you very much tijo :). I have a couple of more queries. Hope you will help me out.

I read in some forums that upgrading screen might hurt the laptop internals like mother board, GPU etc. Since Inspiron SE has a decent GPU I am guessing this should not happen. Am I correct?.
I see the laptop screens are available at laptopscreen dot com. Any comments on their reliability.
Throw me some light on LVDS cable and how to figure out the right one for my model.

Sorry if any of my questions are too basic.

    Thanks.

Think of the LVDS cable as being the internal equivalent of the cable running between a desktop and a monitor. For a 1366x768 display, a 30 pin LVDS cale is enough, but you need a 40-pin one for a 1920x1080 display. The connector on the motherboard also needs to be able to handle the 40 pin cable. I would ask Dell for the part number or check if you can find it online.

Thank you Tijo. I will check with Dell then. Not sure if the mother boards are same but seriously hoping it will be the same.

If I am able to do it successfully I shall post in this thread so it is helpful to others.

    Thank you once again.
