    Hi,

I don't know if ppl have tried this in the past, but are we able lets say for the current $750 off $1999 coupon deal, upgrade the laptop to around 1500+ (whatever specs to your likings) and then fill the rest with 4-year most expensive warranty upgrade (about $400+) to get to $1999+ (around $1200+ as final price after $750 off coupon) and then call and return the warranty for a refund later on?

This way we only pay about $1200-$400=$800+ for a laptop that configures around $1500+.

Any idea if this is do-able?

    Please comment.

Yes, you can do it and that is what I just did (ordered) yesterday.

Everything in the build (customize) pages goes towards the final price that can be used with the current Inspiron coupons (not the instant saving price that deducts and immediate $200, but the price before that). This includes all the warranty plans.

I just ordered the e1505 and got the 4 yr limited warranty w/home service. It was $310 with a $50 dollar MIR (rebate) which made it $260 after the rebate, which is just $20 more than the 3 yr warranty at $240.

I don't think there is anything for dell to "catch on" to. They want to sell the system warranties as they are high profit items (read insurance) and therefore include them in the system price bundle that the coupons can be applied to.

Incidentally, the coupons will not apply to any additional totals from non-system (especially non-dell branded) accersories not found on the build/configure pages.

Yeah, but you need to read what the poster suggested again. He isn't buying the 4 year warranty, he is buying it, then cancelling it. Therefore, screwing Dell. Personally, I like how cheap Dell is, and doing stuff like this is only gonna make them raise their prices. Plus, I am sure they will not let you get away with that.
    Don't do it

I don't think it will work. As far as I know you can't return your warranty once you purchase it. Even if you can, that seems kind of dumb to do. Why are you going to add on extra warranty just so you can use the coupon? It just doesn't make much sense when you can use the coupons to get better specs and buy a better machine that normally would cost you several hundred more.

It seems that I missed the cancel part (above). I agree with the other responders, don't do it!

Changes to the order usually require cancellation and a new order. I was told by dell that the return of some small item (remote, tv tuner, etc.) due to dissatisfaction would not negate the coupon discount, but I also doubt that you could cancel the warranty after delivery (and keep the discount).
