I just upgraded my RAM today, but I have a question.

When I turned my system on for the first time, it went to a black screen that said, "The total system memory has changed. If you didn't change it, to resolve the problem, try reseating the memory. F1 to continue..." etc

I pressed F1 and everything seems to be fine. The system has recognized the new RAM. Does that message always occur when RAM changes are made?

You're fine. Don't panic when your computer tells you that you changed the RAM when you changed the RAM.

Haha. Sounds like I'm just paranoid.

2 GB of RAM makes a HUGE difference in performance.

It gives you that warning in case a stick fails or something, otherwise you might not think about it and just have a slow computer all of a sudden. It's a safeguard that tells you, nothing wrong.

Which brand RAM did you use? I'm thinking of upgrading but can't decide which brand to use. Dell's selling 2 gig for $139 but I know I can save at least $50 or more. Some reviews of the real cheap RAM has it failing after as little as a month. Even though it has a lifetime warranty I'd prefer not to go through the hassle.

Edit; OK I see you used G. Skill. Where'd you get it, how much, was it paired, does it need to be?

I got two 1 GB sticks at $89.99. I got them from Newegg. It'd be best if they were paired. You get the benefit of dual channel if they're paired, and if your system supports it of course.

And it seems you have the same system I do, so yeah, get the RAM paired.
