So I have seen that it's possible to get Dell to upgrade from Vista Basic to Premium on my Vostro 1400 order. I called to get them to do so, but after being on hold for a long time, I had to hang up and do other things. I waited a day or two, and was going to call on Monday. All of the sudden this morning I get an e-mail that my computer has shipped!
Any chance of getting them to upgrade me after the fact?
What are my options here folks?

If it's shipped, not likely. Make sure you don't activate Vista, and you can argue it over the phone with Dell, though I'm pretty sure they'll charge you a fee for Vista Premium, not whole retail, but maybe more than just the difference in price, and also make you pay shipping.

Annoy them. A lot. Talk to managers. Once you receive it though, you're probably on the hook. You just need to hope to get lucky.

dell charges about 100 for vista buisness. you can get on your own vista home premium from newegg for about the same

Order the recovery DVD. Many people have been getting Premium for free

Specifically who do I call to order the recovery disk? Is it worth calling now, or should I wait until I recieve the unit (i.e., will they see in their system that I haven't recieved it yet, and that there's no way to know if I recieved the recovery disk or not).
Thanks. -
I sent an email before it shipped
