I have a Dell 700m, I purchased this notebook in January 2006, when an IBM X20 that I had purchase for IRAQ, just crashed    . Since I had been in IRAQ for a few month, I had some extra cash, so I got this dell, mainly due to it's size.

One year later, I am debating about keeping it and upgrading or just straight out selling it.

Current config..... Pentium M, 2.0Ghz (1.99), 1GB Memory, and 100GB HD, running XP Home Edition.

Upgrade expected. 2GB Memory and 160GB HD and install XP Professional.

I am planning I leaving the military and going to school and would like small notebook to have, but not sure if I should keep this one or sell it and use the money to get another small one, I was thinking an IBM tablet.

Any comments would be appreciated. :D

What will you be using the notebook for? For serious multi-tasking, a dual core notebook might be a prudent option. For basic tasks, you can just retain or upgrade your existing 700m.

You know, I just answered my own question after looking at the specifications of the X41 Tablet, since it is a older model tablet.

    X41 Tablet vs Dell 700m :D
    Pent. M 1.5 vs 2.0 :D
    Mem. 1.5G vs 2G :D
    HD. 60G vs 100G or 160G :D
    Graphics 128MB vs 64MB

Seems the only better option is the graphics, but that what my gameing notebook is for. :D

I guess the next step is to look at the cost of a new HD and 1G stick of memory. Thanks for the comments.

Graphics memory doesn't determine the performance. Read the GPU Guide, but the core chip matters more.

That processor, hard drive and memory is suitable for quite anything. You could even get Vista and install it on your 700m if you wanted to.

Unless you need to play games, or your notebook is worn out from being stationed abroad, you could just keep it.

Thanks for the replies, :p my notebook is kinda slow, but I think it is all the junk and extra programs I have on it, need to reformat and reinstall the OS, :D but I am putting that off until I upgrade the HD to 160, so I can do a clean install and so I can have all my music (40+ GB) on the notebook, not on an external HD. Other then that the notebook is well taken care off, looks new, a little wear on the key board.
I do play one game on it, Ghost Recon, but that requires a 16MB GPU, with the 64MB GPU on board, it does not give me any problems.
I would just like the tablet options, but I guess this will do fine for school.
After thinking and taking things into consideration, keeping it is my best option. :D

    Thanks again for the replies.

And buy yourself a new keyboard from Dell Spare Parts & you've got yourself a "New" laptop... Having had/used a 700m previously, I have to say that it is a very good system. It is not that slow and I've used that for coding in my COBOL, Visual Basic, & C++ programming classes as well.

I hope that someone can anwer this question. I have decide to order my hard drive and memory from Newegg. I am looking at a A-DATA 1GB 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR @ $83.99 and a Western Digital Scorpio WD1600BEVS 160GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM 333 (PC 2700) Notebook Memory Model ADFDB1A16 @ 104.99. Can anyone tell me if this memory is good, great, or so-so, and any information on the Hard drive. I am planing on ordering them on Monday. Any information would be helpful.
