    Hi

    I have a DELL INSPIRON 1300 Laptop with a Celeron M 1.4 Ghz Processor
I ran CPU-Z on it and it says the processor is as follows :

    1.4 Ghz Celeron M
    Socket 479
    90 nm technology

I want to upgrade this with a pentium M processor but all the pentium M processors I have come across for laptops are 478 socket. Will this work with my dell laptop ???

Can someone please advice what options I have in terms of upgrading and which processor I should buy.

Also, if someone has the same machine with a pentium M processor could you also check for me if your processor is 478 or 479 pin and 0.13 m or 90 nm technology (post the screenie pls)

Also please check which motherboard you have.

Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

A Pentium M model will work with notebook. But there are two models. The Banias Core and the Dothan. Dothan is the better one, as it is cooler and has more L2 cache. Bu, you need to make sure you have an Intel 915 chipset, other wise i don't think the processor will work.

There is alot of confusion surrounding this whole 479 and 478 business. The processor actually has 478 pins, but is is referred to as the 479 socket for some reason. Some people call it the 478 socket. Hope this helps.

I tried the following processor but it did not work on this dell 1300 :

    SL5YU - Intel Pentium M 1.6 Ghz - 0.13 micron - 478 pin

    Any other ideas guys?
