I was planning on buying myself a Sager laptop soon but need the money more than a new laptop. I will be upgrading from Vista Home 32bit to W7 upgrade (Pro or Ultimate) 64bit since it is really cheap with the campus agreement.

Since I'm probably going to have this same laptop for another 1-3 years, I was thinking of upgrading my HDD. It currently has a 320GB 5400rpm drive in it. Will my laptop support puting a Seagate Hybrid drive in it (or even an SSD)? If it does, I'd probably replace the drive now and swap it into the new computer when I get one. If not, I can still put in one of WD's Caviar Black 7200rpm drives right?

I don't know how support for these work but I have BIOS version A06 for my 1535, Intel Core 2 Duo T8100, but can't remember the chipset off the top of my head (and can't look it up since I'm on my phone).

    Thanx!

You can add an SSD without a problem.

Can anyone else confirm this? Is SATA III back compat with SATA II? I know I wouldn't be able to take advantage of 6Gb/s transfer rates but it would be for one day when I get a new computer.

Yes SATA 3 is backwards compatible with SATA 2. Also moving to Inspiron/Studio subforum

You can, but there aren't any drives that even take advantage of that transfer rate.
