In prior threads, I've seen mentions about the easy of upgrading memory on various Dell laptops. I just grabbed 1 GB of RAM to upgrade the current 256 MB on my Latitude X1. The question I have comes about from some conflicting info I've seen here and elsewhere. From what I can see, there is only one memory slot underneath the keyboard. Unlike some larger Dell laptops, this ultralight does not have another slot underneath the case. Seeing only one option, I placed in the new chip and booted the machine. However, I cannot get the machine to recognize the 1 GB, rather it is now slowly lumbering assuming 256 MB is still in place.
Dell's manual specifically says this machine has one slot. However, I've seen other mentions of two slots, including a main slot with an irremovable 256 MB. Am I missing something? I assume if there is only one slot, then its a simple swap of modules. However, if there is another memory slot (unmentioned in the documentation), then I may need to find it in order to get to 1.3 GB of total RAM.
Does anyone have specific experience with this machine? Thanks for the help.
