I was just wondering if upgrading to XP Prof will erase the recovery partion dell made or if it will not work ever again.

I really want to see if the setup dell has made will be fine to keep using or if in the future I'll need to reformat. Hate to start reformating and then have all my nice little frontside media buttons stop working (even though I don't use them at all).

Anyways just wanted to know if I could slip my XP Prof disk in without any real adverse respects.

just to clarify, during the installation process, prior to the actual installation of xp, you will have the option of reconfiguring the partitions on your hd. you can elect to...

    1. keep the partitions the way they are and simply reformat and install xp
    2. delete any or all partitions and create a new partition or any number of partitions.
    3. if you want multiple partitions, you can do that in disk administrator once xp in installed.

I installed a clean copy of XP Pro on my 6000d. It works great.

During the install you will have to tell it to delete the partition.
Before you start with a new install go to dell's download page and get the drivers. Your media buttons will work. Search this forum and you will find some more answers. A few of us did this a month ago.
