I ordered a Vostro 1400 and it came with Home Basic. I have a Home Premium disc that I'm not using and want to install it on my Vostro 1400. Do I need to do a clean install of Home Premium or can I just "upgrade" Home Basic?

If it is a full retail Vista Home Premium install disc use it. I would always opt for a clean install over an upgrade. However, if it is a Windows Anytime Upgrade disc, well, that is an upgrade.

You might as well do a full reinstall as you'll have to spend time on this either way.

Yes, you can upgrade, it states on the bottom of the features side on the vista box that Windows Vista Home Basic can be upgraded to home premium.

You won't have to do a clean install. You can upgrade. But you can clean install if you want.
